Prestonfield, originally built as the grand baroque home of Edinburgh’s Lord Provost, is now one of Edinburgh’s most luxurious five-star hotels with 23 stylishly opulent rooms and suites, located just five minutes from Edinburgh city centre.

grand and traditional hotel room

Situated in a picturesque 20 acres of lush greenery and parkland, Prestonfield is Edinburgh’s highest rated hotel, holding the AA’s highest grading, a rare 5 Red Stars, alongside VisitScotland’s highest of 5 Gold Stars.

Owner James Thomson, one of Scotland’s most well-known restaurateurs and hoteliers, wanted to create a compelling alternative to bland, unexceptional hotels, so Prestonfield is a very personal creation of his own. The historic architecture, artwork, antiques, and décor is every bit as rich and colourful as the history of the house itself, and has all been individually selected by James Thomson over the years.

In addition to romantic bedrooms and luxurious suites, there is a destination restaurant – Rhubarb – and a collection of stunning private dining spaces, opulent salons, and impressive public rooms, as well as a dedicated events space within the refurbished stables on Prestonfield’s grounds.

Deemed as Edinburgh’s answer to Central Park in New York, guests can enjoy the plentiful gardens and grounds for leisurely strolls and bring along their four-legged companions, too, as Prestonfield is dog-friendly. The estate is also home to two highland cows, Toffee and Treacle, as well as two magnificent peacocks, and Raven, the resident feline.

Competition closes at midnight on 30 June 2022.
