The Broadway may just be the perfect base for a game of eye-spy

Wake-up, open the blinds, and have a peek down to the grounds of Buckingham Palace. Next, sip your morning coffee as you overlook the London Eye and soak in the morning sun, while soaking up the sights of Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and The Shard.

Located right in the heart of London, with views for miles around, The Broadway and its 258 apartments are the perfect place for people who love a nose. It’s no wonder it’s located on the former site of New Scotland Yard – where better to play the ultimate game of eye-spy?

Reaching heights of nearly 250 ft at its tallest point, this new London development offers a unique vantage point from which to enjoy the city’s layered history. As full-length windows frame its interlocking grid of marble and glass, The Broadway provides far-reaching views of London’s skyline and its most iconic landmarks. If you peel your eyes hard enough, you may just spot Charles and Camilla on a morning stroll.

The History

Long before the birth of The Broadway, the site where it sits served as Henry VIII’s deer park. Transforming the marshland of St James’s Park into royal hunting grounds, he constructed a hunting lodge on the site which was later transformed into St James’s Palace.

Less interested in killing animals than watching them, under the rule of King James I the site evolved into a royal menagerie – home to camels, crocodiles, an elephant and aviaries of exotic birds lining what is now known as Birdcage Walk. Though the menagerie is long gone, anybody who’s visited St James’s Park will know that the pelicans – first introduced in 1664 as a diplomatic gift from a Russian ambassador – still taunt park-goers, and have been known to try and snap sandwiches straight out of their hands. Meanwhile, fans of David Attenborough’s recent Wild London documentary should keep their eyes peeled for the peregrine falcons which still nest on the nearby Houses of Parliament.

Step Inside

While this patch of land has since been used as Westminster Abbey’s orchard and later the headquarters of New Scotland Yard, today this spot in the heart of London has been transformed into a landmark mixed-use development designed by Squire & Partners.

Comprising six buildings, with the tallest at 19 storeys high, The Broadway offers up 1m sqft of residential office and retail space. The six blocks are divided into three distinct pairs: Sancy East and West, Cullinan East and West, and Paragon East and West, with residences ranging from lateral apartments and duplexes, to penthouses.

Alongside the 116,000 sqft of office space and 24,000 sqft of dining and retail space, the development offers a further 12,000 sqft of private amenities, including a 25m swimming pool, a vitality pool, spa facilities such as a sauna and steam room, a gym, personal training room, treatment rooms, residents’ lounge, games room with table tennis and foosball, cinema room, meeting rooms, and private landscaped terrace as well as 24hr concierge services and round-the-clock security.

Each residence is done up in wide plank timber floors, Bardiglio Italian marble kitchen worktops, marble bathrooms, Miele and Gaggenau appliances, Lutron lighting controls, and integrated Crestron home systems as well as underfloor heating and cooling throughout.

The marketing suite sits on the 16th floor of the Cullinan West tower. Designed by Elicyon, the open plan living space combines architectural geometry with soft, rounded textiles – walls wrapped in warm textured wallpaper complemented by two dual-toned joinery units. From high-gloss lacquer and natural stone to rich timber and sculptural chairs, the muted tones create a tranquil refined appearance, complemented by contemporary Murano glass vases.
