It’s another Liane Moriarty adaptation
Fans of Big Little Lies, it’s time to mark your calendars: another Liane Moriarty book has been adapted for the small screen, and it’s finally coming to the UK. Apples Never Fall is a twisty mystery centering on the Delaney family after matriarch Joy goes missing. Across the Atlantic, it aired in March on Peacock – but lucky UK viewers won’t need a subscription to a streamer to tune in…
Apples Never Fall: Plot, Cast & Where To Stream
Best-selling Australian author is the talk of tinsel town after two of her intriguing novels, Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, were adapted for the small screen – and made a splash. The former had an incredibly star studded cast, with Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley, Alexander Skarsgård, Zoë Kravitz, Meryl Streep and Laura Dern all appearing in leading roles across the two seasons, with a third season potentially on the way, while Kidman also appears in the leading role of Nine Perfect Strangers.
And now for Apples Never Fall, based on Moriarty’s 2021 novel of the same name, which we’re sure will be just as addictive. Here’s what to expect.
What Is Apples Never Fall About?
Apples Never Fall centres on the Delaney family: parents Stan and Joy and their four adult children Troy, Logan, Brooke and Amy. Stan and Joy are tennis coaches, and at the beginning of Apples Never Fall, sell the tennis school they have built up throughout their lives and are excited to enjoy the golden years of retired life. But when Joy suddenly goes missing, leaving a blood soaked bicycle behind, her four children are forced to reckon with the picture-perfect image they had of their parents – while long buried secrets rise to the surface.

Where Was It Filmed?
Apples Never Fall was filmed in Queensland, Australia – but the series is set in Florida, a sun-soaked US state half the world over.
Fans of the book will remember Apples Never Fall is originally set in Sydney, so the Aussie filming location brings it all into a neat circle.
Will There Be Apples Never Fall Season 2?
There are no plans for a second season of Apples Never Fall, according to the series creator, showrunner and executive producer Melanie Marnich. She reportedly knew she wanted to transform Moriarty’s novel into a TV series after reading just the first 10 pages. But, upon reaching the end of the novel – which does not have a sequel – she knew there was no need for a season 2. ‘It feels like the story is quite fulsome and fully told,’ Marnich tells TV Insider.
But Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers both got a second season despite there being no second book, so why not Apples Never Fall? For Marnich, doing Moriarty’s book ‘justice’ involved giving the TV adaptation a definitive end. ‘Other than Liane’s incredible authorial DNA, the world was really different [to Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers],’ Marnich says. ‘I think the Delaneys had their journey, and it was a doozy. [The finale] reached its very powerful conclusion.’
