Ready to make a splash?

Sometimes a simple swimming pool just doesn’t cut it. We want fountains, sprinklers, slides, the whole shebang – aka a water park. Ready to make a splash? These are the best water parks near London – plus a bonus few actually in London.

There’s a water sport for everyone at Thorpe Lakes Aqua Park, which is situated just outside of London in Surrey. Think wakeboarding, water skiing and, the reason we’re all here, a fantastic aqua park with floating obstacles and slides. thorpelakeswatersports.co.uk

So near London that you can ride the District Line for most of the journey, Splash Park is a smaller scale Aqua Park than other entries on this list, but still offers a splashtastic, family friendly space, perfect for cooling off in the warmer months. Think water sparkles, splash pads, and classic water play areas. splashparkbarking.co.uk

Danson Splash Park, Bexleyheath

51 Danson Rd, Bexleyheath DA6 8HL

From May to September, little ones can make a splash at Danson Park’s interactive water park – or opt for swinging around on the dry climbing frame and zooming down the sides. Best of all, it’s entirely free, and there’s a huge park to explore and picnic in, too. bexley.gov.uk

Liquid Leisure, Windsor

Aqua Park, Horton Road, Datchet, Windsor SL3 9HY

Set on a private freshwater lake, Windsor’s Liquid Leisure is situated in one of the town’s prettiest spots. Home to wakeboarding, open-water swimming and speedboat rides, Liquid Leisure is best known for its aqua park, a blow up obstacle course extravaganza. If Windsor feels a bit far, there’s a branch in Shepperton, too. windsor.liquidleisure.com

Coral Reef Waterworld, Bracknall

Nine Mile Ride, Bracknell RG12 7JQ

With that old school pirate, shipwreck, tropical island aesthetic, Coral Reef Waterworld is one of the UK’s biggest and best water parks. It’s home to five water slides, rapids, an erupting volcano, a splash pad, a lazy river and, of course, a swimming pool – plus a spa for adults looking to escape the hubbub. everyoneactive.com

Elephant Springs, London

21 Ash Avenue, Elephant Park, London SE17 1FR

Elephant Springs is probably the closest thing you’ll get to an aqua park without leaving London. A natural space tucked in Elephant & Castle’s Elephant Park, perhaps it doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of other aqua parks, but it’s perfect for a cool off and a little splash in the summer months. Described as a ‘waterscape’, it’s supposed to appeal to adults as well as little ones, utilising natural rocks and blending with the landscape to form an oasis. As well as cascading water and springs, there’s a sandpit and play area to enjoy – all free of charge. elephantpark.co.uk

Aqua Splash, Stratford

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London E20 2AQ

The Olympic grade London Aquatics Centre in Stratford is an indoor swimming pool that hosts special Aqua Splash sessions, typically at the weekend and during school holidays. Here, adults and children can tackle an inflatable obstacle course for a day of splashy fun. londonaquaticscentre.org
