It’s official: Ten Pound Poms is returning for a second series after the wildly successful first series, which aired in 2023 and attracted 7.7 million viewers. ‘The positive viewer response to Ten Pound Poms was a true delight,’ says writer, creator and executive producer Danny Brocklehurst. ‘We tapped into a little-known part of our recent history and told stories which reflected the realities of the real Poms that made the trip. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be teaming again with the BBC, Stan and Eleven to continue our characters’ adventure down under.’

What Is Ten Pound Poms About?

Set in the 1950s, Ten Pound Poms follows a group of Brits who leave dreary post-war Britain for a new life in sun soaked Australia. The opportunity is offered for just £10, with better housing and job opportunities promised. But the group soon learns that life in Australia is not as it was sold to them, and they struggle with their new identity as immigrants and to adapt to the nation’s harsh climate.

What Will Happen In Series 2?

‘After a challenging first year in Australia, the new series will follow nurse Kate Thorne (Michelle Keegan) and the Roberts family (led by Faye Marsay and Warren Brown) into 1957 on their adventure down under, as they are determined to make this new country everything they hoped it would be for a fresh start,’ the BBC says. ‘Will Kate, Terry and Annie finally get a slice of the Australian dream they were promised?

‘Series two will also introduce some exciting new characters, including the Skinner family, fresh off the boat from Ireland and the unscrupulous land-lord Benny Bates,’ says the BBC. ‘But will these new characters bring some sunshine into our returning characters’ lives… or just more drama?’

Where Is Ten Pound Poms Filmed?

The first series of Ten Pound Poms was filmed in Australia in May 2022, mainly Scheyville National Park, Carcoar and Sydney. Series two will begin filming in Australia in mid February 2024.

‘I fell in love with Australia last season, so I’m delighted to be heading back there with Danny, Faye, Michelle and Warren to reunite with our fabulous director Ana and our wonderful cast and crew, as well as welcoming director Tom McKay into the fold,’ says Executive Producer Joel Wilson.

Release Date

No release date just yet, but there was a year-long delay between filming and release with series one of Ten Pound Poms. If the same happens for series two, it would be released in February 2025. We hope it’ll be sooner than that, though.
