Where Do The Royals Hang Out In The Cotswolds? Here’s Your Complete Guide To The Favourite Spots

Word on the street is that Harry and Meghan have moved to the Cotswolds. Though we’ve yet to get official confirmation of their new address all the clues are there. They flew into Birmingham airport, Cotswold schools are all abuzz with rumours of royal pupils, and Meghan has been spotted grabbing a coffee at Soho Farmhouse.

A favourite hideaway of celebrities, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex wouldn’t be the first royals to call Cotswolds home. King Charles III and Queen Camilla hide out in Highgrove, Princess Anne is shacked up in Gatcombe Park, Zara Tindall has Aston Farm, and Princess Beatrice owns a second home in a Cotswold farmhouse. But where do they hang out? From members’ clubs to local pubs, here are the Cotswold hotspots loved by royals.

The first Meghan sighting since her return to British shores, the Duchess of Sussex was spotted enjoying a morning coffee at Soho Farmhouse’s Comfy Farm lounge. If house-hunting rumours are to be believed, it seems likely that she’ll soon be a regular – especially as she and Harry had their first date in the Soho House on London’s Dean Street.

The Cotswolds outpost of the global members’ club, Soho Farmhouse is set within 100 acres of Oxfordshire countryside, close to the village of Chipping Norton and Great Tew. Members like Meghan get access to its 114 bedrooms and cabins, dining spaces, Health Club (including a spa, gym, indoor/outdoor pool, and in-lake hot tubs), plus a selection of wellness experiences and outdoor activities, spanning horse-riding, clay-pigeon shooting, tennis and padel.

Daylesford Farmshop

The organic Cotswold farm of Lord and Lady Bamford, Daylesford Organic is a beloved British brand amongst royals and celebrities alike. With outposts across London, their primary base is the on-site farmshop near Kingham in Gloucestershire. Dubbed the ‘UK’s poshest farm shop’, Princess Eugenie, Prince Harry and Meghan are all said to be fans. Though he’s never been spotted on site, King Charles is also a close personal friend of the Bamfords.

The Bamford Club

And if that doesn’t give you your Bamford fix, there’s always The Club By Bamford. Nestled in 3,500 acres of organic farmland, The Club by Bamford offers members a range wellness experience incorporating health, fitness and holistic wellbeing. There’s a gym, padel court and pool, therapy rooms and spa, dining, studios and a fitness farm. Rumour has it that both Princess Beatrice and Eugenie are members.

Estelle Manor

The countryside counterpart to Mayfair’s Maison Estelle, Estelle Manor is another favourite of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie. A private members’ club and hotel, Princess Beatrice has frequently been spotted at the site. As well as your standard wellness offerings, the country club itinerary includes archery, horse-riding, falconry and Blenheim Palace boat tours.

Cotswold Farm Park

A rare breed petting farm run by farmer and TV presenter Adam Henson, Cotswold Farm Park is beloved by local families looking for a day out with the kids. Among them, Princess Anne’s daughter and Olympian equestrian Zara Tindall, who has frequently been spotted walking around the Cheltenham farm with her three children and husband Mike Tindall.

Highgrove Estate

The Cotswold home of King Charles and Queen Camilla, Highgrove sits southwest of Tetbury in Gloucestershire. Though neglected when he first arrived, over the following decades, Charles has worked alongside renowned horticulturalists, landscape designers, artists, and craftspeople to transform roughly 15 of its 900 acres into gardens open to the public. Once you’ve finished exploring the gardens, check out the Highgrove Estate Shop in Tetbury, where Charles and Camilla can occasionally be spotted having a stroll around the streets.

A testing ground for Charles’s environmental ideas, the estate boasts solar panels, natural wastewater filtration, energy-efficient infrastructure, and a fully organic farm. Writing about the estate in 1993, Charles said: ‘The garden at Highgrove really does spring from my heart and, strange as it may seem to some, creating it has been rather like a form of worship.’

Equestrian Events

If there’s one place you’re likely to spot a royal, it’s at an equestrian event – and the Cotswold social calendar is packed with them. Though Princess Anne’s Festival of British Eventing at Gatcombe Park is cancelled for the foreseeable future, there are plenty of other horse shows and races that the royals are known to frequent.

As a former Olympic equestrian and Cotswold local, Zara Tindall can be spotted at almost all of them, but she’s not the only fan. The Duchess of Edinburgh has been known to watch the Cornbury House Horse Trials, Queen Camilla and the late Queen Elizabeth II have both attended the Badminton Horse Trials, and Princess Anne hosted the inaugural Cotswold Cup at her home. King Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry have also been known to play in charity matches at Cirencester Park Polo Club – perhaps Prince George, Louis and Archie will one day follow in their footsteps?

Of all the equestrian events in the Cotswolds, Cheltenham Festival is of course the most popular, attracting Queen Camilla, Princess Anne, Prince William and Princess Kate to its stands.

Favourite Pubs

Even the royals are not immune to the allure of a proper British boozer. And the Cotswolds has seen its fair share of royal visitors to its historic pubs. The upmarket gastropub, The Bull in Charlbury – a favourite spot amongst the Cotswolds celeb set – is said to have welcomed Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to dinner on more than one occasion. Similarly, The Lygon Arms has received both King Edward VII and VIII, plus Prince Philip.

Perhaps less known joints, Prince William and Prince Harry are said to have visited other locals such as the Rattlebone Inn and The Cat and Custard Pot while staying at Highgrove in their late teens and early 20s. Prince William and Princess Kate have also reportedly visited The Kingham Plough (for a New Year’s Eve boozer) and The King’s Head in Bledington. According to royal correspondent and Kate biographer Marcia Moody, William and Kate enjoyed a night out in the pub with friends before breaking off their relationship the next day.
