Vardo, Chelsea
On the hunt for some oats in Chelsea? Head to Vardo in Duke of York Square, a lovely breakfast spot which does a great bowl of porridge. Oatis, Notting Hill
The clue’s in the name: this Notting Hill cafe is dedicated to all things oats. While porridge often sits more in the sweet breakfast category, here there are savoury bowls too: oats are topped with the likes of mushrooms and pesto, or even smoked salmon and avocado. Don’t knock it before you’ve tried it, but that doesn’t float your boat there’s a whole host of more conventional options too, like the signature Pink Lady, which includes ingredients like cinnamon baked apple, nut butter and chia seeds.

26 Grains, Covent Garden
The Chanel of the porridge world, 26 Grains is the creation of Alex Hely-Hutchinson, who came up with the idea while studying in Copenhagen. Inspired by the Danes’ love for grains, she set out to spice up the British oat scene, opening a tiny open-fronted cafĂ© in pretty Neals Yard. With its wooden benches and blackboards, 26 Grains has the feel of an artisan workshop about it, even more so when you discover Alex rolls and flakes the oats herself. Offerings include an ever-changing menu of sweet and savoury porridge bowls, made with nut milks and spices and jazzed up with blitzed nut butters, homemade fruit compĂ´tes and coconut palm sugar. Currently, we’re loving the banana and tahini porridge, which is topped with sesame and cacao nibs.
