A foodie's guide to the rowing extravaganza

The world’s most prestigious regatta, Henley is always a highlight of the British social season. Spread across five days every summer, it’s centred around a series of rowing races on the Thames, attracting thousands of blazer-donning spectators to the river banks. But it’s not just about the sport: a big part of the fun of Henley Royal Regatta is sampling the abundance of great food and drink offered on-site. Whether you fancy a relaxed picnic or fine dining, we’ve pulled together a foodie’s guide to drinking and dining at Henley, which returns from 1 – 6 July 2025.
A Guide To Food & Drink At Henley Royal Regatta
Stewards’ Enclosure
The most exclusive area at Henley is the Stewards’ Enclosure, which is limited to members and their guests. Perched on the Berkshire bank, opposite the finish line, it offers unparalleled views of the races, alongside top-class dining.
Mile & 1/8th Restaurant
This offers one of the most elevated dining experiences at Henley, with views of the river. Pop by first thing for a coffee and a pastry, before heading back for lunch: this year’s menu includes the likes of Atlantic cod loin, roast beef, and rose harissa spiced courgette gnocchi. Afternoon tea is also on offer here, featuring a traditional spread of finger sandwiches, scones and pastries.
Seafood Restaurant
Seafood lovers should head here for a decadent spread of shellfish, sushi and fish. Treat yourself to the ‘Henley Special’ sharing platter, which is piled high with prawns, squid, mussels, cockels and lobster, or tuck into mains like poached trout supreme, and beetroot-marinated smoked salmon. No reservations are needed – simply stop by any time from 11 – 3.30pm.
Fawley Meadows
Fawley Meadows offers a range of luxurious hospitality experiences. Here guests can enjoy a five-course lunch, drinks on the private outdoor terrace, live music and even riverboat cruises. If you’re hosting an event, you can also book one of the Fawley Meadows Chalets, which overlook the river and cater for up to 30 guests.
Regatta Enclosure
The Regatta Enclosure is open to everyone, with a family-friendly feel and a relaxed dress code. There’s always a lively atmosphere, with an array of food and drink stalls dotted around, as well as a fine dining restaurant, Regatta Bistro.
Regatta Bistro
For a more formal lunch within the Regatta Enclosure, book a table at Regatta Bistro, which offers a three-course a la carte meal throughout Henley Royal Regatta. Begin with starters of beef carpaccio, pickled heritage carrots and Cornish trout, ahead of mains including porcini pappardelle, corn-fed chicken with greens, and Cornish mussels with smoked bacon and aioli, followed by Madagascan vanilla cheesecake for dessert. There are two sittings available: the first from 12 – 1.30pm, and the second from 1.45 – 3.15pm (apart from Sunday, when you must dine between 12 – 2.30pm).
Little Lion Meadow
There’s something to suit all tastes and cravings in Little Lion Meadow, located just outside the main entrance of the Stewards’ Enclosure. Grab some breakfast and a coffee to kick off your day, before choosing between an array of lunch options: think artisan pizzas, Japanese poke bowls, Greek mezze, wagyu burgers and ice cream.
Picnics
Although visitors are not permitted to bring their own food into the enclosures, there are dedicated areas for picnicking. Remenham Farm, for instance, offers parking and picnicking tickets which include a picnic bench right by the river.
