Lore of the Land is located within an airfield in the South West countryside

Film director Guy Ritchie is best known for his work on screen, but he’s making a name for himself in the foodie world too. A few years back he opened a pub, Lore of the Land in Fitzrovia, London, and now he’s bringing his concept to the English countryside with Lore of the Sky.

Lore of the Sky: What To Expect From Guy Ritchie’s New Airfield Restaurant

Set in the middle of the historic Compton Abbas Airfield in Dorset – located within an Area Of Outstanding Beauty – Lore of the Sky will offer a unique and picturesque dining experience, with panoramic views over Shaftesbury.

Curated by head chef Alex Brown, the menu is inspired by Texan barbecue cuisine, with dishes cooked on a state-of-the-art J&R Oyler Smoker which has been flown in from Texas (the first of its kind in the UK). Think oak-smoked pork belly, smokehouse loaded nachos and slow-braised jackfruit burgers.

Alongside this, diners can enjoy draught beers, ales and ciders from Dorset and Wiltshire breweries, as well as lager from local brewery Altitude, created in-house in homage to the airfield’s aviation legacy.

The experience will be particularly exciting for aviation enthusiasts: you’ll be able to watch vintage aircraft take off and land throughout the day – or even go the extra mile by booking one of the flying experiences available on-site.

Ritchie is the name behind a string of iconic British gangster films, including Snatch and The Gentlemen – the latter of which was later created into a wildly popular TV series for Netflix (with a second series currently in the works). In 2019, he took over a traditional pub on London’s Conway Street, transforming it into a buzzy gastro spot serving generous Sunday roasts and beer from his own microbrewery, Gritchie.
