New London Restaurant Openings: June 2025

Canal, Westbourne Park

Since arriving on the backstreets of Shoreditch in 2023, characterful restaurant Bistro Freddie has become a favourite with London’s foodies. And now the team behind it is back with Canal, opening within Mason & Fifth’s latest site in Westbourne Park. Overlooking the Grand Union Canal, the eatery will be led by New York-born chef Adrian Hernandez Farina – who brings with him some impressive culinary credentials, having worked in a string of prestigious spots like Humo and The French Laundry. The menu will include bistro-style fare including polenta flatbreads, ricotta agnolotti, seabream crudo, and Cornish John Dory with lemon dill butter. Cocktails, meanwhile, will come courtesy of East London hotspot A Bar with Shapes for a Name – which recently secured a spot on the coveted World’s 50 Best Bars list. With its large waterside terrace, could this be the new go-to spot for summer 2025?

Group of people sitting by the water in London

Barbarella, Canary Wharf

If you haven’t tried one of the Big Mamma restaurants yet, where have you been? The restaurant group is taking over London with its eclectic, larger-than-life Italian eateries, and this June another is joining the roster. Say hello to Barbarella, opening within the YY Building perched beside the docks and skyscrapers of Canary Wharf. A homage to the golden age of Roman cinema in the ‘70s, the eatery will feature characteristically extravagant interiors, with a mirrored glass bar and vintage Ferragamo silks. Rome-born chef Marco Rastelli is taking the reins in the kitchen, focusing on extra-thin pizzas, fresh pastas – including a one-metre-long spaghettone – and mains like sharing Cornish lemon sole, filleted tableside. Pair with fun twists on classic cocktails including an on-trend pistachio espresso martini.

Tigermilk, Charing Cross

Paris regulars will already be familiar with Tigermilk, the popular group with restaurants dotted across the French capital and beyond. And now its collection is expanding to London, opening this June in one of the new development spaces on Charing Cross Road. Although the eatery was born in France, it’s actually all about Latin American food: diners can expect the likes of fresh guacamole made tableside, chipotle-marinated T-bone, slow-cooked tacos, and rocoto-glazed lamb shoulder. On the sweet side, the towering tiramisu is sure to be a highlight, featuring four layers of passionfruit and cream. Theo James, Ed Templeton and Naz Hassan

Lupa, Highbury

Loved Theo James in The Gentlemen? Well, for his latest project the actor has turned to food, joining forces with Carousel co-founder Ed Templeton to open a new restaurant in Highbury. Inspired by Roman osterias, Lupa is an intimate eatery with space for just 28 diners, soon to open for dinners and weekend lunches. With chef Naz Hassan at the helm, the menu is inspired by Templeton’s time spent living in Rome, beginning with traditional antipasti like Supplì al telefono (Rome’s answer to Sicilian arancino), followed by hand-rolled pasta and vegetable-forward secondi dishes, like puntarelle tossed with lemon and capers, and lamb cutlets from the grill, with standout dolci to finish. ‘Theo and I are both Highbury locals and share an ambition to open an enduring neighbourhood classic,’ says Templeton. ‘It’s taken eighteen months to make it happen, but we knew it was a special corner of Highbury from the start.’

When? Opening late June 2025

Where? 73 Highbury Park, London, N5 1UA

French food at Chez Lui in London

Chez Lui, Notting Hill

Spicing up Notting Hill’s already buzzing dining scene this June is Chez Lui, a new launch from La Bistro Collection, the latest concept from the Bagatelle Group. Bringing a touch of Parisian chic to the capital, the eatery is centred around seasonal French cooking and twists on classics. A beef tartare starter features a zesty chimichurri glaze, for instance, while golden artichokes are paired with celery pesto. For the main event, roast chicken is taken to the next level: brined for 72 hours in aromatic spices, then slow-cooked with herb-infused butter. This is followed by decadent desserts including a tarte tatin, dark chocolate mousse, and rum baba, alongside French wines and cocktails such as a twist on the negroni and an aesthetically presented paloma.
