Hosting the family for Thanksgiving this year? Or perhaps you’re the designated bartender for your first Friendsgiving? Cocktails are guaranteed to bring fun to the table. Here are some ideas for seasonal Thanksgiving cocktails, from a Spanish twist on mulled wine to a warming hot buttered rum and of course some pumpkin spice-infused drinks. Whizz up a batch to impress your guests this November – and if you’re cooking too, here are some traditional food recipes to try.

Best Thanksgiving Cocktails

Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini

Ingredients:

  • 1 shot of vodka
  • 1 shot of Kahlua 
  • ½ shot of Baileys (optional) 
  • 1 shot of espresso
  • Dash of vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp pumpkin spice mix or 15ml syrup
  • Ice (cubed not crushed)
  • Coffee beans for topping (optional)

Method:

  1. Pour all the ingredients into a cocktail shaker, and add ice. 
  2. Give it a good shake, until the cocktail shaker feels really cold. 
  3. Pour the drink into a chilled martini glass straight away, using a strainer.
  4. Garnish with a few coffee beans, and a sprinkling of extra pumpkin spice.

Hot Buttered Rum

Ingredients:

  • 60ml BACARDÍ Caribbean Spiced
  • 90ml hot water
  • 1/2 cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • 10ml coconut cream
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 knobs unsalted butter
  • Lemon

Method: 

  1. Add all ingredients (except BACARDÍ Caribbean Spiced) to a small saucepan, bring to a boil, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Once boiling, remove from the heat and add BACARDÍ Caribbean Spiced, then stir and cover. 
  3. Leave for 10 min to allow the flavours to infuse.
  4. Strain into a mug and garnish a lemon.

Ginger Cranberry Whiskey Sour

Ingredients:

  • 2 ounces Maker’s Mark whisky
  • 1 ounce cranberry juice
  • 1/2 ounce fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce ginger syrup (recipe below)
  • Ice cubes
  • Cranberries and lemon slices, for garnish
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 piece of fresh ginger, peeled and thinly sliced (1-inch long)

Method:

  1. In a cocktail shaker, combine the Maker’s Mark whisky, cranberry juice, lemon juice, and ginger syrup.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice cubes and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds to chill the ingredients.
  3. Strain the cocktail into a glass filled with fresh ice.
  4. Garnish with cranberries and a lemon slice.

Ginger Syrup

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and ginger slices.
  2. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Once the sugar has dissolved, reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the ginger syrup cool completely.
  5. Strain the syrup to remove the ginger slices and transfer it to a glass jar or bottle for storage.

Cranberry cocktail

Pumpkin Spice Margarita

Ingredients: 

  • 30ml Cointreau 
  • 30ml Tequila 
  • 22ml fresh lime juice 
  • 2 tbsp pumpkin puree 
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin pie spice 
  • 1 tbsp honey 

Method: 

  1. Add ingredients into a shaker, add ice and shake 
  2. Fine strain over ice into a glass 
  3. Garnish with a cinnamon stick

Pumpkin spice margarita

Mulled Sangria

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle full-bodied Rioja red wine
  • 4 shots brandy
  • Half a bottle of 330ml apple cider
  • 2 green apples sliced into sticks
  • 2 lemons sliced
  • 2 limes sliced
  • 1 orange sliced
  • Handful Cranberries
  • Handful Blackberries
  • 1 tablespoons of honey
  • 3 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 clove

Method: 

  1. Keep a bit of the fruit back to garnish
  2. Simmer all the ingredients for about 20 mins so the fruit is properly drunken, leave to cool and then refrigerate for a few hours.
  3. Garnish with fresh fruit, dried orange, fresh thyme, star anise, pomegranate seeds.
