If You Thought Millennial Pink Was Over, You Haven’t Seen this Restaurant

A paradise for all things pink–as well as chicken and lobster….

Rein Rambaldo, designer and co-owner of MaMa Kelly, went all in with millennial pink, while the restaurant’s menu is an ode to chicken and lobster (do not fear, vegetarians, risotto awaits).

The designer and co-owner’s determination to make all spaces stylish could have something to do with the decision to submerge 1,000 sq m of Amsterdam’s historic 1928 Olympic Stadium in a sea of trendy pink. Rambaldo also follows his own trend of restaurants plonked in historic locations; MaMa Kelly’s first location is in the former boiler house of Caballero Factory in The Hague, outside Amsterdam’s city centre.

Rein Rambaldo drew initial inspiration from the interior of a small New York shop, which led him to eventually paint the town, well, pink. And not without initial reservations from his studio!

The real question is which spot in the restaurant is best for your night’s crowning Instagram? Will it be at the carousel bar or alongside an additional Millennial favourite: fluorescent lights that spell out ‘You’ll never guess.’  Patterned lobster and chicken carpeting or the leather raised dining ‘cabins’ are textural surprises that delight the eye. Still more opportunity awaits with the pseudo-seventies vibe below: plush seating and a faux-brass palm tree that might give your ‘gram that extra flair.

Kitsch as it may be, Wes Andersonian charm prevails.
