Who doesn’t love dessert for breakfast?

Nutritious and perfect for meal prepping, overnight oats are a staple breakfast for many. The best part about them is you can jazz them up in all sorts of ways, adding nut butters, fruits and toppings galore. But we think we might have found the most delicious way to eat your oats: by mixing in coffee, yoghurt and cocoa powder to create a kind of tiramisu overnight oats hybrid. Recipe videos are swirling round Instagram and TikTok right now; here’s how to create your own version at home.

What Are Tiramisu Overnight Oats?

Beginning your day with a tiramisu might seem a little indulgent, but this breakfast dish takes the flavours of the classic Italian pudding and blends them with oats to make a healthy grab-and-go breakfast. In the same way as you’d create your usual overnight oats, these are made by combining your milk of choice with oats, coffee and chia seeds. The mixture is then left in the fridge overnight, allowing the oats to soak up all the flavours to create an espresso-infused oatmeal, then topped with cocoa yoghurt to create a breakfast that resembles a dessert.

Which Oats Work Best For Overnight Oats?

You can use whichever oats you like best, but old-fashioned rolled oats tend to work best as they soak up the liquid well, resulting in a creamy rather than mushy consistency.

What Are The Health Benefits?

Overnight oats are a nutritious breakfast option. Soaking the oats improves their digestibility as it breaks down the starches, while also allowing the oats to retain more of the resistant starch, which is beneficial for gut health. It’s also a great dish for heart health, and numerous studies have shown eating oats for breakfast can help you feel fuller for longer.

The added ingredients here have benefits, too. When consumed in moderation, coffee can help boost energy levels and support brain health – plus recent research suggests it could increase longevity. Chia seeds, meanwhile, are a good source of fibre, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants.
