Howard’s House – Teffont Evias, Wiltshire

The West Country

Built in 1623 and tucked away in an unspoilt Wiltshire village deep in the Nadder Valley, Howard’s House blends into the landscape, reassuringly timeless and quintessentially English. A hotel since 1989, it offers an oasis of calm away from the bustle. In the glorious flower-filled garden, protected by an old topiary hedge, the only sounds you’re likely to hear are birdsong and the knock of ball on mallet. In the hands of Simon Greenwood and his team, Howard’s House is superbly run. The upgraded interior looks pretty and pleasing, and the nine comfortable bedrooms all sport fresh paint, floral fabrics and crisp white bedspreads. As for the food, experienced head chef Andy Britton uses only the finest locally sourced seasonal ingredients, skilfully combining them to release their true flavours in delicate, imaginative dishes. With the added benefit of the newly converted Coach House, perfect for private parties of up to 24, this is a hidden gem in the heart of Wiltshire, full of unpretentious charm.

The beautiful Nadder Valley countryside, with a wealth of world class walking, fishing and shooting options. Or take in the sights with a day trip to Salisbury Cathedral, Messums Art Gallery, Stonehenge, Longleat, Stourhead, Wilton House or many other nearby attractions.

Fresh, homegrown, seasonal produce from the kitchen gardens, freshly laid blue or white eggs from the resident Legbar and Leghorn chickens, and home-smoked meats and cheeses prepared in the hotel’s own smokery. Andy’s home-smoked locally-caughtNadder Trout is much sought-after.

A weekend of pure foodie indulgence with the Gourmet Getaway. Enjoy exclusive treats such as a seven-course tasting menu personally created for you by head chef Andy, and a hamper of Howard’s House goodies to take home.
