The hit Netflix show is back for season 4 – and it comes with plenty of interiors inspiration

Dearest gentle reader, it’s that time again. Bridgerton is back on our screens for its fourth instalment, putting the spotlight on romantic leads Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson)  and the mysterious Lady in Silver (Yerin Ha). Things might look a little different this social season, but we can always rely on Bridgerton to deliver some stunning visuals – especially in the bedroom.

No, we’re not talking about our leading lovers; Regency-inspired interior design is taking over mood boards, Pinterest feeds and homes all over the world. But how do we get the look? We ask the experts in design where to start.

The Bridgerton Effect: Regency Interiors Are Trending (Again)

At this point, it’s safe to say that Bridgerton has inspired a trend or two – whether that be in book sales, Regency-themed fashion and beauty, or sparking a fresh wave of raunchy period dramas.

But one of its biggest influences has to be on interior design. ‘Bridgerton has had a surprisingly profound impact on interiors,’ notes Tom Carpenter, Associate Director at bespoke design studio Sims Hilditch. ‘At a time when minimalism was starting to feel a tad tired, the show ushered in a renewed appetite for romance, ornamentation and expressive design.

‘What we’ve seen emerge is often referred to as “Regencycore”, a modern reimagining of Regency-era elegance that feels decorative and layered,’ he adds. ‘The show has also encouraged pastels, pattern, decorative detailing and artisanal finishes to make a confident return.’

The demand for Bridgerton-themed interiors is especially felt over at Liberty. ‘The show has certainly inspired a renewed appetite for romantic detailing, confident scale, and Regency-inspired opulence,’ says Mary-Ann Bartlett Dunkley, Design Director at the historic department store.

It’s not all history, though. As we’ve come to find out from watching the show, historical (in)accuracy pairs delightfully well with a pinch of modern charm. As Mary-Ann highlights: ‘Bridgerton’s contemporary take on Regency-era romance has likewise translated to how customers are approaching ornate florals, botanicals, and decorative trims in their homes in a way that feels fresh and stylised over historical.’

Over the years, we’ve become familiar with multiple settings that boast the Bridgerton flair. There’s the family’s pastel-toned townhouse; the sweeping grounds of Clyvedon Castle; Queen Charlotte’s ornate reception rooms in Buckingham House; the Featherington’s heavily-hued London residence; and, more recently, the soft countryside interiors of My Cottage. And they all have one thing in common: some rather beautiful bedrooms.

‘Onscreen, bedrooms are designed as intimate sanctuaries – romantic, serene and indulgent,’ highlights Tom. ‘Those in Bridgerton showcase softer colour palettes, elegant wallpapers and statement beds that anchor the room. Layered textiles play a big role too: flowing curtains, plush throws, and tactile fabrics like velvet or silk all help create a sense of opulence and luxury.

And, having seen such beautiful interiors onscreen, it’s no wonder we’re all keen to bring a little Bridgerton into the bedroom.

Expert Tips: How To Style A Bridgerton-Inspired Bedroom

Feeling inspired to try your hand at curating a bedroom fit for the ton? We’ve got you covered. ‘A Bridgerton-inspired bedroom is about creating a space that feels elegant, romantic and restorative, with just enough drama to feel truly special.’

Below, our design experts share their top tips for nailing the look:

Paint In Pastels

As always, start with the colour scheme. The Bridgerton household is known for its cool-toned sugary pastels, with blue being the hue of choice for wallpapers, rugs and soft furnishings. This palette will lend most spaces a sense of (period) drama, notes Tom: ‘Leaning into soft pastel hues can imbue a sense of historically accurate calm, while staying true to the Brigerton look.’

‘Romantic shades of soft pastels, sage greens and warm blush tones instantly add a sense of Bridgerton style elegance while deeper plums and navies bring the drama,’ adds Mary-Ann.

Find Your Diamond

While grandeur is woven into every element of the room, Tom explains that when it comes to furniture there is usually a standout focal point – and diamond of the season, if you will. ‘These are usually statement pieces, such as a grand four-poster bed with a trailing canopy, a beautifully carved antique chest or an ornate fireplace. These ground the scheme, and give you a starting point to work from.’

Try Rich Textures

Fabrics play an especially important role in Regency-themed interiors; they introduce rich tactility to the room, and create an atmosphere of splendour that most high society homes boasted. Mary-Ann adds that ‘pairing contrasting fabrics, such as luscious velvet with crisp cotton, adds opulence without the need for a full redesign.’

Get Bright Ideas

To get the best out of your chosen fabrics and colours, you’ll need the right lighting. ‘It’s incredibly important to utilise the space to make the best of the natural light that will bathe it,’ emphasises interior designer Katherine Pooley. Unobstructed windows will keep the room feeling light and airy, while large-scale mirrors will lend the bedroom depth. ‘This will also show off all those gorgeous fabrics, finishes and trimmings, making for an idyllic, sumptuously calm space.’

Layer Up

Don’t be afraid to play with patterns. ‘Regency-era interiors are defined by decorative richness, so don’t be afraid to layer patterns and prints,’ notes Mary-Ann. ‘A statement floral on a headboard or curtains creates an instant focal point, while coordinating cushions in smaller-scale florals or delicate stripes can add warmth and cosiness to the room.’

Cut The Clutter

This is a bedroom at the end of the day, so don’t be tempted to overfill it; this will only create stress when you try to use the room. ‘Balance is key,’ emphasises Tom. ‘Pair decorative elements with quieter moments so that the space can breathe.’ He adds that ‘it’s also worth avoiding clutter. Regency interiors, whilst decorative, were often carefully composed. Editing is just as important as embellishment.’
