A significant new chapter begins as Dorset House Prep School prepares to merge with Lancing College from September 2025, creating a prestigious educational pathway in West Sussex.

This new partnership unites two institutions with remarkable architectural heritage and shared educational philosophies. Both prioritise excellence in teaching, emotional wellbeing, and fostering leadership within stunning natural environments that stretch from the South Downs to the coast.

Dorset House, one of Britain’s oldest and most respected preparatory schools, will maintain its distinctive identity whilst becoming Lancing’s third preparatory establishment alongside schools in Hove and Worthing. This creates a comprehensive spread of prep schools from Brighton to Chichester.

The merger offers families expanded options, including boarding from Year 5 at Dorset House’s nurturing campus, and streamlined pathways to Lancing College in Year 9. Both institutions already enjoy established connections through collaborative science, music, drama and scholarship programmes.

Martin Slumbers, Chair of Lancing College, emphasised the alignment of values: ‘Our shared commitment to care, inspiration and individual development of young people creates inspiring educational opportunities across Sussex.’

Mike Higham, Chair of Dorset House, called the merger ‘a well-considered partnership’ ensuring ‘the long-term success of the school and maintaining its position among the country’s outstanding preparatory institutions.’
