Tonbridge Pupils Showcase Their Musical Talents in Annual Competition

Last week, Tonbridge’s annual House Music Competition took place at the school’s EM Forster Theatre. Over 200 boys took part in the competition this year.

The boys performed one amplified and one acoustic song. Highlights from the night include performances of Just the Way You Are by Danny Boy Billy Joel, Danny Boy and I Wan’na Be Like You from The Jungle Book.

A staff band performed for the audience while the judges were making their final decisions.

The results of this year’s competition are:

Winner of the House Music Cup: Judde 

Runners Up: Oakeshott and Whitworth  

Cullen Award for Best Acoustic Item: Oakeshott for Something

The Paul Gamblin Award for Best Amplified Item: Parkside for Coldplay Mash-up

Best Arrangement: TK Buristrakul (HS5) for Night Changes

Pupils at the school also took on roles in stage management, sound, filming and technical support.

Director of Music, Mark Forkgen, said: ‘This year’s competition had the usual eclectic mix of songs, but also a consistently high level of performance across all the Houses. The highlights for the adjudicator were displays of musical invention in the acoustic arrangements and the excellent drumming throughout the whole evening.’
