The World Aquatic Championships will take place at Futuoka this week, 23rd to 30th July, with eight Millfield School pupils competing this year.

Millfield has created its own Performance Squad to support athletes who want to compete on an international stage. Being a part of the squad grants them access to coaching and facilities, as well as access to a training base for those who would like to compete in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Alex Painter, Upper Sixth student at Millfield is looking to utilise the programme to get his dream of competing in the 2024 Olympics.

Alex said: ‘Getting to train with the world’s best everyday allows you to truly see the skill and dedication required to compete at an elite level.’

One requirement of being part of the Performance Squad is that pupils will also act as mentors for the younger students who want to follow in their footsteps.

Euan Dale, Director of Swimming at Millfield, said: ‘Having this level of excellence in our programme is a powerful development tool for our student and coaching body; we are so thankful to everyone who has made this happen.
