To mark our Call to Remembrance service the Art department organised a special installation of commemorative canvas ribbons arranged on a tree outside the School’s Chapel to honour Mill Hill School pupils who lost their lives in World War 1.

On Friday, Mill Hill School’s Call to Remembrance Service took place. Pupils, Staff and Old Millhillians gathered to remember those who gave their lives in World War One, World War Two and other conflicts. The School community lined up in front of the Gate of Honour to remember the fallen, took part in a chapel service and listened to musical performances from the Music School.

The School honoured the fallen soldiers of Mill Hill School in World War One with an art installation in the Chapel Garden. Art Scholars and staff in the Art Department took rubbings on canvas ribbons of each fallen soldier from Mill Hill School in the First World War and hung them on a tree in the Chapel Garden. These names are listed on our School’s Gate of Honour, which stands in front of the School. The ribbons will encourage the entire Mill Hill School community to stop and think of those who have lost their lives in conflict. Bo (Lower Sixth, Priestley) and Grace (Lower Sixth, Priestley) gave a moving speech about the reality of being a pupil at Mill Hill School and being enlisted in the Army. They also explained the background behind the artwork which brought the piece alive.

Thank you to Mr Lockwood (Art Technician), who placed the names onto the canvas ribbons with the help of the Art Scholars and Ms Collins (Teacher of Art).

The Service was a very special day at our School. Please visit The Mill Hill School Foundation website to find out more about the Service.
