West Buckland School, near Barnstaple, in North Devon, has donated 15 laptops to Ukrainian families who are living in the North Devon area. The laptops, donated by the school and also by individual staff members, are being offered to help enable the families to set up or continue with their businesses, or to support their children’s learning. Many have lost their livelihoods due to the war in their home country of Ukraine.

This kind donation comes on the back of a very successful and exciting Community Day, run by the school for local Ukrainian families, back in August. Around 60 families came for a day of fun, food and friendship. The children had an opportunity to take part in football, archery, music, art and other team games, under the supervision of staff who had volunteered their time for free. The school also provided free transport to and from Barnstaple so that as many families as possible could take part.

West Buckland Events and Business Manager, Ana Estevez-Martinez, organised both the fun day and also the laptop donation. “I’m so delighted that the school has been able to help local Ukrainian families in this way. We wanted to make these lovely families feel welcome in North Devon, through small acts of kindness, and I am so grateful to the school’s fantastic IT team who configured and prepared all the laptops ready for distribution.”

The school has welcomed four Ukrainian students this September.
