The Curriculum

We ensure that our pupils realise their full potential and leave Heathfield as young women eager and able to make a contribution to the world with the skills and talents they have discovered, developed and honed during their years at Heathfield.

Games & The Arts

Well-known for its prowess in the Arts, Heathfield students enjoy participating in a wide range of Drama and Musical events from whole school productions to live concerts at local venues. Heathfield is the only school in the UK to benefit from a Creative Partnership with Falmouth School of Art. The Art Department have collaborated with Course Leaders on the BA Fine Art and BA Drawing courses to enhance and extend current provision for their pupils. Heathfield pupils also benefit from the close relationship with the world-famous London College of Fashion, and Heathfield’s biennial Fashion Show is now legendary.

Every girl in Forms I and II represent the school in athletics, lacrosse, netball, rounders, swimming and tennis. In Forms III and IV there are A and B teams in most sports and at senior level, 1st and 2nd teams. All teams play competitive matches at fixtures throughout the school year. As well as running teams and clubs in all major sports, Heathfield also offers girls the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities including badminton, cricket, dance, fitness, football, gymnastics, polo, riding and trampolining. These are open to all ages and abilities and are an excellent opportunity for older girls to coach and mix with the younger years. In addition, there is a strong inter-house structure with every girl representing their house in both team and individual sports.

Pastoral Care

Girls have a strong and supportive network at Heathfield. Everyone is part of the house system with every girl going into one of four houses. The heads of house are responsible for the girls’ welfare and are the main point of contact for parents. Girls also have an allocated Housemistress in the boarding area who is on duty before and after the school day and on weekends, who can be also contacted by parents.

Day girls play a full part in the life of Heathfield alongside our boarders. We offer flexible days to suit family life; whether day girls want to come to school for breakfast or for the beginning of school, leave after lessons or stay on for an evening or weekend activity they are involved in.

Heathfield allows girls to really be part of an environment where they make friends for life and gives them the opportunity to experience so much each day alongside their academic studies.

University Places

In 2020, over 40 per cent of students left Heathfield for Russell Group universities including Bath, Bristol, Edinburgh, Exeter, University College London and Newcastle. Girls were also awarded places at other top destinations including London College of Fashion and Parsons, Paris.

Head Teacher’s Philosophy

Heathfield enables girls to excel and empowers them as self-confident, resilient, articulate young women. Academically, Heathfield aims to engender an intellectual curiosity combined with self-discipline; a combination that leads our young women to success in so many areas. We are not led purely by our academic outcomes; pupils go to the top universities, art colleges and drama schools as well as to the world of work.

Outstanding Characteristics

Heathfield is a school with a simple but powerful philosophy – happy, confident girls succeed. Heathfield was in the vanguard of schools equating happiness with academic success and giving equal importance to pastoral care and academic standards.
