The Curriculum

We cover all subjects in the national curriculum: English; maths; science; history; physical education; religious education; personal, social and health education; Computing and art and design technology. Yet we do not slavishly follow the national curriculum and are therefore not restricted by it and can adapt our education to meet our pupils’ needs.

Games & The Arts

In addition to our broad curriculum we offer a wide number of activities which enrich and extend our students. Across the year we offer more than 40 lunchtime and after-school clubs. Some of these are run by Sancton Wood teachers and some by external instructors such as Yoga and Ballet.

Pastoral Care

At Sancton Wood we are very proud of our pastoral care. Our latest ISI inspection said: ‘The outstanding pastoral arrangements ensure that pupils understand and exercise the values of honesty, courtesy and respect for themselves and others. Staff know the pupils well and provide excellent pastoral support.’

Head Teacher’s Philosophy

Sancton Wood offers something unique in Cambridge, a school that is ‘all through’ until the sixth form.  A school which offers seamless progression from one to 16 without distracting entrance exams and potentially messy transitions, especially at 11 and 13.  This means the complete learning journey can be planned and delivered without interruption.

Outstanding Characteristics

Sancton Wood aims to make an outstanding contribution to the social, emotional and academic development of each child. The school has a reputation for instilling good manners, reliability and self-discipline. We have small class sizes across the school and this excellent pupil-teacher ratio is a key to the educational philosophy that focuses on the provision of a tailored educational programme for each pupil.
