The names and labels outfitting the British royal family

If there’s one thing you can say about the royals, it’s that they have style. And, as you might expect, they’re always keen to put the spotlight on the best homegrown talent the UK has to offer. But which labels will you find in the wardrobes of King Charles III, Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton? These are the British brands the royal family swears by.

10 British Brands Loved By The Royal Family

1. Barbour

Whether worn on a wet countryside walk or out on the fields of Glastonbury, it’s safe to say that Barbour is one of Britain’s most beloved brands. Pioneers of countryside chic, the label is a favourite amongst all members of the royal family – from the Prince and Princess of Wales to the late Queen Elizabeth II. You’ll catch them shrugging into a Barbour wax jacket a few times a year, especially for outdoorsy public appearances or during the colder months.

2. Hunter

Another one for the countryside. Hunter is renowned for its classic wellington boots (as well as its slightly more modern ankle boot styles) – and with the royal family splitting much of their time between country and town, it makes perfect sense to see them stomping along in this British heritage label.

3. Burberry

Who can avoid the pull of a Burberry trench? Certainly not the royal family, who have granted the brand Royal Warrants since 1919 (when King George V granted Burberry its first for services in tailoring). It was long favoured by Queen Elizabeth II, who often could be spotted wearing a Burberry scarf while walking the dogs on the grounds of Windsor Castle – but the new generation also shares her enthusiasm, wearing all manner of Burberry check, trench and coat.

4. Alexander McQueen

While other members of the royal family have been spotted wearing Alexander McQueen over the years, it’s Kate Middleton who arguably has the biggest association with the label. She most notably wore an Alexander McQueen wedding dress for her nuptials to Prince William in 2011, as well as a tulle gown from the brand for her 40th birthday commemorative portraits. The brand remains a favourite of the Princess of Wales to this day, as she continues to wear its occasionwear for more formal events in the royal calendar.

5. Erdem

One of the youngest names on this list, Canadian-born designer Erdem Moralıoğlu set up his eponymous label in London just 20 years ago – and has remained a hit ever since. A regular at London Fashion Week, Erdem is also a favourite amongst younger members of the royal family, including Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. (And Eugenie even wore the label for her official engagement photos back in 2019.)

6. Purdey

Royal Warrant holder James Purdey & Sons might be better known for kitting out the royal family with guns and hunting equipment, but its stores are also home to a timeless curation of countryside apparel. Think fleece jumpers, tweed vests, chunky knits and silk shirting – perfect for country walks and afternoons at the pub.

7. Gieves & Hawkes

When it comes to British tailoring, the royals’ pick is Gieves & Hawkes. The tailor has resided at No. 1 Savile Row for over 100 years, but has been serving members of the British royal family for much longer – earning its first Royal Warrant in 1799. And today, it remains a favourite of King Charles III and William, the Prince of Wales, who regularly tap the label for its formal evening and day suits.

8. DAKS

Having started out as a bespoke tailoring service in 1894, DAKS is now a luxury label specialising in fine tailoring and accessories for both men and women – although the brand first became famous for inventing self-supporting trousers. These days, you’ll see members of the royal family wearing DAKS’s smart shirts and tailored dresses.

9. Turnbull & Asser

Official shirtmakers to the royal family, Turnbull & Asser has long been known for its rich quality and chic craftsmanship. Over the years, the label has outfitted some of the biggest names in politics and pop culture – from Winston Churchill to Charlie Chaplin and James Bond. The Royal Warrant holder has also been making clothes for the royals for decades, with King Charles III being one of the brand’s biggest fans.

10. Victoria Beckham

Another young brand that has found fame with the new generation of royals – particularly Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales has supposedly struck up a friendship with the former Spice Girl over the years, and has incorporated various accessories and statement pieces from the brand into her wardrobe. More recently, she was spotted in an olive green suit from Victoria Beckham, which she wore for the British Fashion Council’s Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design presentation event earlier this year.
