The collection, designed for women who navigate life between city and sea, launches today
One of the biggest fashion collaborations of the year has just dropped. Finisterre, the coastal lifestyle brand better known for its hardy outerwear, has teamed up with Amy Powney, environmental activist and founder of AKYN, on a limited edition womenswear line. Launching today (4 September 2025), the collection promises a capsule wardrobe that works across every terrain – from city streets to the coast. Here’s everything you need to know.
Finisterre x Amy Powney: What To Expect From The Collaboration
Rarely do we find clothing that seemingly ‘does it all’ – especially when it comes to navigating the shift from town to country, and vice versa. But this unexpected collaboration could just be what our wardrobe needed. Designed by women for women, the Finisterre x Amy Powney capsule blends technical innovation with versatile style. The result? Wardrobe staples that bridge the gap between city and sea.
‘I have always been inspired by Finisterre and its incredible ethos and commitment to sustainability, with a deep passion for the natural world,’ commented Powney. ‘I wanted to create a collection for women which, from a design perspective, speaks to our many layers and passions.’
‘The collection brings together technical performance with effortless, adaptable design,’ added Finisterre’s Design Manager Rose Savidge, who led the collaboration alongside Powney. ‘It has been created for modern women who move fluidly between urban life and coastal landscapes.’
The collection – the first women’s collaboration for Finisterre – was not only about an alignment of brand ethos but about an alignment of wardrobe. ‘Why do women feel we have to have one wardrobe for the outdoors and one for city life? Why couldn’t they be one and the same?’ This is the style conundrum that Powney has answered.
‘Outerwear has traditionally had a very specific look, while women’s fashion in urban spaces has often felt completely separate,’ said the designer. ‘When I think about men’s wardrobes, they’re allowed to transcend those boundaries – you can look outdoorsy in the city and vice versa. For women, it’s been more divided: you’re either in one subculture or the other.
‘But in the rhythm of modern life, each day we ebb and flow through multiple environments and, simultaneously, many versions of ourselves. I wanted to create a multifunctional and versatile capsule, empowering women to transcend landscapes. This collection is an answer to that where our wardrobes have previously disconnected us.’
The collaboration, while a pleasant surprise for some, makes perfect sense when considering their shared ethos to create clothing that doesn’t compromise on aesthetic – or ethics. ‘Amy’s work in fashion has been a huge inspiration to us,’ highlighted Amelia Hornblow, Product Director at Finisterre. ‘Not only does she bring a beautiful handwriting to her design language, but her design ethos and commitment to sustainable design and sourcing align seamlessly with Finisterre’s values.’
With this in mind, pieces from the capsule have been made using a combination of natural and lower-impact materials – including Tencel, NetPlus, certified organic cotton, recycled fills and 100 percent Merino wool.
‘The collection is also a reminder that we are all inherently connected, that our lives are intertwined with the surrounding ecosystems,’ added Powney. ‘Finisterre has an incredible commitment to saving the sea, and as an urban dweller, I am very aware that all rivers lead to the sea; therefore, we are all connected, all part of the problem and together can all be part of the solution.
‘That’s why in celebration of this collection, we are donating £5,000 to support Thames21, an environmental charity that works with communities, to restore and ensure the protection of our waterways as “all rivers lead to the sea”.’
Collection Highlights
Comprising 17 core staples, the capsule presents outerwear, knitwear, jersey and woven pieces that show off Finisterre’s trusted technical performance and Amy Powney’s flair for timeless style. Built on a palette of earthy, grounded tones – think mossy greens, deep sea blues and muted neutrals inspired by the natural landscapes of Cornwall – each item in the collection is designed for adaptability, to be worn just as confidently on the streets of London as the UK coastline.
While it’s difficult to pick favourites, some of the major highlights from the collection revolve around outerwear: a stylishly storm-ready parka, a military-inspired quilted liner jacket and a beach robe perfect for both sea swims and cold weather strolls in the city.
Elsewhere, a fisherman roll neck and an Aran jumper offer an elevated take on some of Finisterre’s heritage pieces – keeping the brand’s classic cosy feel while freshening up the classic styles for layering. Powney has also brought in some wardrobe basics, including a T-shirt and pleated trousers, that offer a more feminine silhouette alongside Finisterre’s signature durability.
