The model tapped family favourite label Versace for her ceremony gown
With the news of Lady Eliza Spencer’s recent engagement, we’re taking a look back at how her twin sister, Lady Amelia Spencer, planned her big day (and chose not one, not two – but three beautiful wedding dresses).
Revisiting The Wedding Of Lady Amelia Spencer
Lady Amelia Spencer met her long-time partner, lifestyle coach Greg Mallett, while the two were both studying at the University of Cape Town in 2009. But it would be another 14 years before they officially tied the knot.

Amelia and Greg became engaged while on holiday in Franschhoek – back in July 2020, when the world was just starting to recover from the pandemic. And for his proposal, Greg pulled out all the sentimental stops.
‘After a romantic lunch and day by the pool, we returned to our room where I had organised for champagne and rose petals to be laid out,’ Greg recounted to Vogue. ‘I had one big pink box inside, which I put in eight smaller boxes, decreasing in size. In each box was a photograph of some of our most special memories, and attached to each memory were the words, “I remember when….” The final box contained a note instead of a picture, that said: “But most importantly, I know that you will remember tonight as the night that I proposed.” As Amelia was reading the note, I dropped to one knee with the ring.’
It set the tone for a similarly dreamy wedding. Amelia and Greg were married at Quoin Rock Manor House in Stellenbosch, South Africa on 21 March 2023. Providing panoramic views of Table Mountain and Simonsberg Mountain, it was a stunning backdrop for the next Spencer wedding.

How Many Dresses Did Lady Amelia Spencer Wear On Her Wedding Day?
While Lady Amelia Spencer technically wore two dresses on her wedding day – a long lace gown by Versace for the ceremony, and a Pronovias mini dress for the after party – she also indulged in a pre-wedding party the night before, where she wore a slinky white Galvan number. This would bring the total number of dresses to three (a few off sister Lady Kitty Spencer’s five-dress Dolce & Gabbana marathon, but still an impressive number nonetheless).
Below, we revisit each dress in detail.
Dress 1: The Galvan Halter
The night before the big day, the bride and groom held a pre-wedding party for family and friends at La Cotte Farm – where Amelia slipped into her first dress. A sequined halter gown from London-based label Galvan, which featured a high side-split and open back. She then accessorised with a slicked back ponytail, as well as a pearl bracelet and ivory satin platform heels.

Dress 2: The Versace Gown
For her ceremony dress, there was only one option: legendary luxury label Versace. Like her sister, Kitty, and cousin-in-law, Kate Middleton, Amelia opted to walk down the aisle in a lace, long-sleeved gown with a sweeping train. But that’s where tradition stopped; other details included a form-fitting, fluted silhouette, sheer detailing on the bodice and a low, open back.
She teamed up the gown with a dramatic five-metre-long veil (the same length as her other cousin-in-law, Meghan Markle’s) made of fine silk tulle and Jimmy Choo shoes.
‘I have always loved Versace, and so it was a very easy decision and a dream come true,’ Amelia explained in a conversation with Vogue. ‘My gown was crafted, over the course of two and a half months, from custom silk rebrodé lace and featured a two-and-a-half-metre train, Swarovski crystals, a hand-embroidered neckline, and structured shoulders, with intricate flower patterns running throughout.’

Dress 3: The Pronovias Mini
And last (but certainly not least), there was the Pronovias mini dress. The short and sweet number echoed the hallmarks of her ceremony dress, with long sleeves, a sweetheart neckline and an embellished bodice – she also kept the same sleek bun, hair accessory and Jimmy Choo heels she wore earlier in the day – but diverged into party territory with its short hemline. And, like both dresses before, this one featured a backless design.
Sharing images of the after-party on Instagram, Amelia wrote: ‘The after-party […] Thank you Pronovias for designing this beautiful dress for me.’

Why Did Lady Amelia Spencer Choose Versace?
The bride’s choice of designer for her ceremony dress wasn’t without intention. While Versace is renowned for its chic bridal offering, the Italian atelier also holds a special place in the hearts of the Spencer family – largely thanks to the late Princess Diana, Amelia’s aunt, who was close friends with founder Gianni Versace.
‘I think she would be very proud to see me on my wedding day,’ she said in an interview with Hello! following the big day. ‘I know the Versace family also absolutely love Diana, so there’s a very special connection that we have.’
The model, who was just five years old when Diana passed away in 1997, also recounted the experience of seeing her dress for the first time. Joined by twin sister Eliza and older sister Kitty, Amelia said her ‘eyes filled up [with tears], so did my sisters’. When I put it on, I was just so happy and grateful that it was my dream dress, I didn’t change one thing. It fit like a glove.’
