The dermatologist and hair loss specialist gives us full access to her beauty routine

As one of the UK’s leading consultant dermatologists, Dr Aamna Adel has spent years treating hair loss and scalp conditions in clinic – while simultaneously cultivating a huge online following. Known for her science-backed, myth-busting take on skin and hair – cutting through the internet noise that comes with a crowded and largely unregulated market.

And in 2024, she founded rhute – a dermatologist-developed haircare brand built on the principle that healthy hair begins at the scalp. ‘I believe beauty should enhance, not mask. Healthy skin and healthy hair create confidence naturally,’ she tells C&TH. ‘My approach has always been rooted in science, but also in creating rituals people genuinely enjoy and can sustain long term.’ This is a philosophy she carries through to her own routine, we found out.

Below, Dr Aamna Adel takes us through her beauty bag, her non-negotiable rituals and the products she can’t live without.

What’s Inside My Beauty Bag? With Dr Aamna Adel

Let’s start with the bag itself – describe it for us.

I carry a fairly structured beauty bag because I’m constantly moving between clinic, meetings, travel, content shoots and everything happening with rhute – but inside there are usually far too many products ‘just in case.’ There will always be a mix of essentials, multiple lip balms, and products I’m testing at the moment. It’s very functional though. I need products that work quickly, travel well, and help me look awake and polished even when my schedule is hectic.

What are your non-negotiable beauty rituals?

SPF every single day, proper scalp care, and consistency. I always say healthy hair starts at the scalp, which is really the foundation of everything we do at rhute. I also never sleep in makeup and I prioritise hydration over aggressive treatments.

Let’s break down your beauty routine – face?

In the morning, I like to apply SkinCeuticals Vitamin C Serum, haruharu wonder Black Rice Hyaluronic Toner, Bubble Cosmic Silk Hydrating Milky Toner, and Anua Zero-Cast Moisturising Suncream SPF 50.

Eyes?

A nighttime job: haruharu wonder Black Rice Bakuchiol Eye Cream.

Lips?

Rhode Peptide Lip Treatment.

Tools?

An LLL hair helmet – I like the options at HairMax and CurrentBody.

Finishing touches?

Healthy-looking hair is a huge part of feeling put together for me, so I like to use rhute Density and Repair Scalp Serum on a daily basis, as well as the Dermastamp twice weekly and Density Complex Pre-Wash Hair Oil two to three times a week. I’ll usually finish with a lightweight hair oil or smoothing product for shine. Fragrance is another finishing touch I never skip.

Which product instantly makes you feel ready to tackle the day?

Freshly styled hair, glowing skin, and mascara. If my hair looks healthy, I automatically feel more confident.

What’s the one beauty item you always carry in your handbag?

Lip balm. I never leave the house without one. I also love an SPF stick – you can use it over make-up, hands and neck, which makes it so versatile.

What’s the most expensive thing in your beauty bag?

SkinCeuticals Vitamin C serum.

What about the hero product you can’t live without, and have used for years?

SPF, without hesitation. As a dermatologist, it’s the one product I believe everyone should use consistently.

Tell us about a beauty trend you love…

I love that people are becoming more interested in scalp health and preventative beauty. There’s much more awareness now that healthy hair growth starts before the strand itself.

And one you can’t wait to see fall out of fashion?

Over-exfoliating and using too many active ingredients at once. I see so many compromised skin barriers because people think more is more.

The best piece of beauty advice you’ve been given?

Consistency is more important than intensity. The habits you repeat daily matter far more than occasional extreme treatments.

What item do you think should be in every beauty bag?

SPF, lip balm, and something that makes you feel instantly polished – whether that’s mascara, fragrance, or a good hair product.

Anything else?

I think beauty has shifted from perfection towards longevity and wellbeing, which I love. People want to feel healthy, confident, and like the best version of themselves. That philosophy really inspired the creation of rhute and the focus on dermatologist-developed hairscience.
