Are Florals The Next Big Spring Hair Trend?

Bye bye bows, hello hydrangeas

Hair accessories are having a moment – and this time, it has nothing to do with bows. Our next obsession leans into the season, with fresh blooms marking the arrival of spring on the fashion circuit. Here’s everything you need to know about this floral hair trend.

What Is The Floral Hair Trend?

As it’s name suggests, the floral hair trend incorporates flowers and blooms into your hairdo to create an ultra-feminine springtime look. Attached to hair ties, woven into strands and clustered together to form larger hair pieces, the look follows in the footsteps of its predecessor, the bow, in becoming the season’s next big ‘it’ accessory.

Florals? For spring? Now, we know what you’re thinking. Flowers are a little bit on the nose when it comes to embracing the seasonal shift, but springtime is the perfect time for a quiet rejuvenation of your look – especially when it looks as bright and sunny as a freshly planted garden.

Like last year’s corsage fashion fad, the floral hair trend mostly relies on roses – crafted in pretty shades of pink, orange and cream – to achieve its signature look. And it makes sense why this is the bloom of choice; roses are a universal symbol of love and beauty, making them the perfect pick for those who like to romanticise daily life through the smaller choices (like their wardrobe).

We saw floral hair pick up speed with the Giambattista Valli Haute Couture show back in January. The fashion house, whose dreamy couture shows are typically matched with artsy hairdos that reflect the theme of the show, burst onto the runway in a flurry of petals, soft tulles and full skirts that mimicked unfurling flowers. Hairstylist Pier Paolo Lai, a longtime collaborator with the label, completely understood the assignment: pairing models up with sleek ponytails held back with black velvet bows and clusters of trianon roses.

And it seems the trend has been a hit with the fashion pack, who came out in droves this week at Copenhagen Fashion Week to see the city’s line-up of scheduled shows. The city, despite facing temperatures below five degrees, was awash with faux blooms. While many took to pinning corsages to their coats, bags and dresses, others took their cues from Giambattista Valli: think oversized scrunchies, sculptural claw clips and plaits strung with flowers.

‘This season’s edition of Copenhagen Fashion Week was a real game-changer for us in the hair industry,’ says Jason Crozier, art director at Neville Hair & Beauty. ‘We saw this incredible rise in floral hair trends that’s just blown everyone away. It’s like we’re bringing the beauty of a garden right into our hairstyles. We’re talking delicate baby’s breath, vibrant peonies and even some daring orchids making their way into braids, buns, and loose waves.

‘It’s not just about looking pretty – it’s a whole vibe, a way to connect with nature and add a bit of that organic, earthy feel to our looks,’ he continues. ‘As a hairdresser, I’m loving this trend. It’s fresh, it’s fun and it lets us get really creative. It’s not every day you get to work with flowers as your accessories, and I’m here for it. These floral styles are not just turning heads; they’re starting conversations about beauty, sustainability and going back to nature. It’s a beautiful blend of fashion and nature, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us next.’
