Teranka – Formentera, the Balearics

Teranka, a new independent boutique hotel, is now open on the bohemian island of Formentera, offering an idyllic, island-hideaway experience in the Mediterranean. With 35 spacious bedrooms across three levels, Teranka maintains a creative, laidback feel through its design, while being surrounded by unspoilt natural beauty and beaches. There’s plenty of fine cuisine on offer, too: Vert Mer – by acclaimed Andalusian chef Juan Martín – offers sophisticated dining; fine dining from French 3 Michelin-starred chef Emmanuel Renaut is available for an unforgettable experience; Nobu Formentera on the hotel’s rooftop brings Chef Nobu Matsuhisa’s signature dishes to the island accompanied with views over Formentera’s turquoise waters.

Curio Collection by Hilton just landed in Instagram’s favourite Greek paradise: Santorini. 7Pines Resort Sardinia – Italy

An outposting of Destination by Hyatt, 7Pines Resort Sardinia opened earlier this summer, located on the beachfront in Baja Sardinia, within the neighbourhood of Porto Cervo and a stone’s throw away from Costa Smeralda. Guests can choose from 76 rooms, including 8 junior suites and 20 suites, all with a choice of sea views or landscaped Mediterranean gardens. The 7Pines Yachting Services provides access to an exclusive fleet of luxury yachts for guests keen to explore the most beautiful coves and beaches of the Costa Smeralda or the archipelago of La Maddalena. The Pure Seven Spa – which won’t open until 2023 – will sit at the heart of the resort: an 800 square metre wellbeing centre with five treatment cabins for individual or couples’ treatments, plus steam room, sauna, emotional shower, ice room and outdoor areas for Kneipp therapy.

A luxury resort with a firm commitment to protecting the environment, the five-star Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá in Menorca, Spain is Meliá Hotels International’s most significant launch to date: the group wants the hotel to be their first carbon-neutral branch. Emissions are 87% reduced with efficient facilities (and the group will offset the remaining 13%) all the while using renewable energy and reducing energy and water consumption. With a fresh colour palette, endless sea views, expansive beaches and large terraces and porches to blend indoor/outdoor living, Villa Le Blanc promises a breath of fresh air for guests. After lying back in the luxurious spa – with treatments and experiences based on vegan cosmetics and natural products – guests can dine on the finest fresh ingredients from local island farms across four in-house restaurants, all with a gorgeous view of the Mediterranean.

Baglioni Masseria Muzza – Puglia, Italy

Sitting between Baia dei Turchi beach and Alimini Piccolo lake, Baglioni Masseria Muzza benefits from spectacular countryside and coastal views. 10 minutes from UNESCO heritage city Otranto – which boasts a Mediaeval castle, Romanesque cathedral, and numerous waterside restaurants – the hotel centres on an ancient, whitewashed building dating back to the 17th century surrounded by five acres of countryside. Rooms are dotted around the central courtyard in former stables and barns, with high vaulted ceilings and original stone features. Some have balconies and verandas overlooking the Alimini lakes, others enjoy sunset views over the expansive Mediterranean gardens, olive groves and Adriatic sea and beaches beyond.

Located on Kalafati Beach on the eastern edge of Mykonos overlooking the deep blue Aegean, Cali Mykonos will boast 40 luxury villas in the prime location of Kalafati Beach. At this new beach hotel, the villas are perched above a 110-meter infinity pool, which serves as both a private oasis and the ideal location for day/night parties. There is also a fleet of yachts and speed boats, available for rides and tours to other beaches, towns, and neighbouring remote islands such as Tinos and Paros, with private helicopter journeys also available upon request.

The Standard Ibiza

The Standard – Ibiza

One of the most hot new beach hotel openings of 2022, The Standard’s Ibiza branch fronts the island’s main plaza, Vara de Rey, and is described as a ‘year-round adult playground’. With a design conceived by Lázaro Rosa-Violán and interiors by Oskar Kohnen, the hotel boasts a distinct 60’s vibe that is both fun and classy. There are 67 rooms and suites to explore, as well as a restaurant (which transforms after hours into an intimate nightlife experience) and a rooftop bar with panoramic views of the island. Formentera is also just a short, 20-minute ferry trip away.

Overlooking the Aegean Sea, Hilton’s new independent luxury property – part of the LXR Hotels & Resorts group – is Susona Bodrum. In the heart of the Turkish Riviera, and named for the Turkis mythological mermaid, this coastal retreat boasts 70 rooms, suite and villas, most with private pools and gardens for an added touch of luxurious privacy. The infinity pool, jetty, spa, beach club and two luxurious restaurants make for a relaxing experience without having to leave the hotel. Those looking to explore a little further afield can visit the nearby local town, Torba, for olive groves, pine forests, cafes and restaurants.

Luxury group, Domes Resorts & Reserves, have launched Domes Aulūs, a new concept focussing on ‘Cool Inclusive’ and eco-consciousness. Their first two branches open this summer – Domes Aulūs Elounda in Crete, and Domes Aulūs Zante – ready for guests to indulge in their luxury property and service. Both draw inspiration from the surrounding environment, decorated soothing grey and beige textured surfaces, with Aegean blue textiles splashing warmth and creating a casual-luxury atmosphere. Gran Hotel Montesol (New Hotels 2022)

Located just off the main strip of the Paseo Vara de Rey, the Gran Hotel Montesol is a short distance from the historic Dalt Vila neighbourhood, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. The building was first used by the Spanish government as a military barracks during the Spanish Civil War and World War II. Countless people have stayed at the Gran Hotel Montesol Ibiza since its opening, including Orson Wells and Princess Caroline of Monaco.
