The UK‘s hotel scene is moving from strength to strength, with innovative renovations, cute guest houses, and plenty of pubs with rooms – there’s never been a better time for a staycation. Opening: 29 September 2023

Raffles Hotels and Resorts and Hinduja Group is set to open London’s first Raffles address in the new year, located in the landmark Grade II listed former Old War Office on Whitehall. Once inhabited by Britain’s most famous statesmen and spies from Winston Churchill to Ian Fleming, it will be open to the public for the first time with 120 rooms and suites plus 85 branded residences, 11 restaurants and bars including a rooftop bars with views across Whitehall, The Mall and Buckingham Palace. Opening: 4 October 2023

This renowned Somerset restaurant is set to open seven ensuite rooms this summer, transforming the culinary stop off into a destination in its own right. Mirroring the restaurant’s aesthetic, expect original features from the 1830s building to be restored and sit seamlessly alongside modernist joinery, mid-century furniture and contemporary artworks.

Following the success of Chiswick’s ‘whole life net-zero’ development, the hometel is landing in Belfast, with 175 rooms across nine floors, alongside a restaurant, bar, cafe, work space, and gym.

Opening: 1 November 2023

Featuring 57 rooms and suits, Broadwick Soho is the first London hotel designed by Martin Brudnizki, the man behind the beloved interiors at Annabel’s and The Wolseley. The designer describes the new venture as ‘your eccentric godmother’s Soho townhouse’, with many of the higher-tier rooms and suites featuring private balconies overlooking the bustling streets of the city. The rooftop cocktail bar is also sure to be a Soho hit.

Opening: November 2023

Complete with a SUSHISAMBA restaurant, Joao’s Place cocktail bar and terrace, a chef’s table experience and a terrace with 360-degree city views, W Edinburgh will bring a playful twist on Scottish culture to Edinburgh this November. Expect visionary design, eclectic gastronomy and a socially-driven spirit across 199 rooms and 45 suites.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London

22 Hanover Square, London W1S 1JP

Opening: Autumn 2023

From Knightsbridge to Hanover Square, there’s a new Mandarin Oriental coming to another of the town’s chicest neighbourhoods. With 50 guestrooms and 78 private residences designed by Studio Indigo, the property has been designed by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners with the public space interiors designed by Tokyo based studio, Curiosity. A discreet and intimate sister property to the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair will also be home to an urban spa, and the first namesake Akira Back restaurant in the UK along with his ‘ABar Lounge’ concept.

Dao by Dorsett Hornsey Town Hall, London

Opening: Q4 2023

Part of a significant restoration project in north London, this aparthotel will be housed in the fully restored Grade II* listed Hornsey Town Hall building, alongside an Arts Centre for events, co-working spaces, cinema, and various F&B outlets including a rooftop terrace. Dao by Dorsett’s second London property – following the launch of Dao By Dorsett West London earlier this year – the brand will host guests across 68 apartments and suites.

Wildes Hotel, Chester

Bridge Street, Chester

Opening: 2023

The Wildes Hotel Group is transforming a historic site on Bridge Street in Chester into a one-of-a-kind boutique hotel, set to open in spring 2023. The £5 million development will feature 18 bedrooms, a spa with rooftop pool overlooking the city, and a destination restaurant and bar by Chef Harry Guy, as well as outdoor seating set within the historic Rows of Chester, with views of the famous Eastgate Street clock.

Red Carnation Hotels’ first property in Scotland, 100 Princes Street is set to be a celebration of the beautiful city of Edinburgh, the heritage of Scotland and the exclusive address of the former Overseas League. Led by the design team behind the iconic Ashford Castle in Ireland, Toni Tollman, Philippe Bonino and Brian Brennan, this restoration will look to protect and retain the original heart and soul of 100 Princes Street, restoring the original building and its iconic features. Inspired by Alexander McQueen, the design team sought to create a sense of place, working with local artisans to create bespoke pieces including custom-made tartan designed by Araminta Campbell, and a central staircase which features a hand-painted mural by Croxford & Saunders.

Following the success of SH Hotels & Resorts London rendition, Treehouse Hotel is coming to Manchester early in 2023. Located a stone’s throw from the city’s top shopping destinations, the hotel will be housed in a restored building with a new, biophilic edge (in true Treehouse fashion): roof gardens, green walls, a kitchen garden harvesting rainwater, and even a rooftop apiary.

Opening: Early 2025

The Zetter group’s first new hotel opening in a decade will arrive in London in 2025. Six 300-year old townhouses in leafy Bloomsbury will be transformed into The Zetter Bloomsbury, with 72 bedrooms and suites near Russell Square and overlooking the British Museum. Guests can expect an immediately welcoming atmosphere, with a Sitting Room in lieu of a reception desk, where an arrival cocktail will accompany views of the hotel’s tranquil terrace and gardens, with landscaping by Rich Landscapes. Inside, find The Orangery, The Larder and The Drawing Room all proving unique spaces for guests to eat, drink, and wind down.

Located on Berkeley Street and overlooking Green Park, 1 Hotel Mayfair is London’s first ‘mission-driven sustainable luxury hotel’, striving to set the standard for a new kind of luxury experience that doesn’t just reduce its emissions but positively impacts the environment by being there. Across 184 rooms and suites, sustainable design will be clear, including in the floors which are crafted from fallen trees from local parks.

Occupying one of London’s chicest addresses at Hyde Park Corner, The Peninsula London is a newly-built hotel designed by Hopkins Architects, opening this autumn. Flooded with natural light, expect a sleek and spacious aesthetic, centred around a courtyard landscaped by world-renowned designer Enzo Enea featuring two 120-year-old Japanese maple trees, the oldest of their kind in Europe.

Margate is having a moment. With only 21 rooms, the boutique GuestHouse will arrive in Kent’s artiest seaside town in spring 2023, embracing the fun-filled town and the nostalgia of its Victorian beachfront building across a restaurant, rooftop and spa.

From The Draycott Hotel to The Chelsea Townhouse: this series of three redbrick townhouses on Cadogan Gardens in the heart of Chelsea will undergo a sensitive restoration after being acquired by Cadogan. A sister property to The Mayfair Townhouse, The Chelsea Townhouse will be operated by Iconic Luxury Hotels from 5 January 2023, keeping its 35 luxurious bedrooms and suites in the restoration, many of which overlook a private garden square.

Hugh Seaborn, Chief Executive of Cadogan said: ‘We are delighted to bring this fine luxury hotel under our stewardship, as part of our strategy to ensure Chelsea has some of the world’s best places to stay that truly become part of the neighbourhood. Following a two-year construction period and £9 million of investment, The Wesley Camden Town – sister to The Wesley Euston – is a boutique hotel of 38 rooms, situated in a converted chapel. The Methodist Church will remain, along with a community space, on the lower ground floor, with new hotel rooms across four floors above.
