What to Do Today: Head to a Sound Screen Music and Film Festival Event

Sound Screen Music and Film Festival is returning to the capital from 21-28 March this year. The event will take place across various cinemas and venues in London with the likes of 02 Academy Islington and Genesis Cinema getting in on the festivities. Audiences can expect to see live gigs as well as some of the best new music documentaries around at the moment. Several events will have a host of director Q&A afterwards for those who want to get their questions answered.

The event is hosted by Rock & Roll Cinema, who have previously held several successful cinema events including the UK’s first ‘Rock & Roll’ cinema event with Julien Temple’s ‘Oil City Confidential’ which was beamed via satellite to cinemas in the UK back in 2011.

A rare performance from Lee Scratch Perry is happening at KOKO Camden. The concert venue and former theatre will be home to the prophet of the international Rastafari movement for the whole evening in a standing show. An icon in the Black Power movement, Lee Perry will be playing live and interacting with the audience through his songs and guiding them on how to change the world with music with his Vision Of Paradise film. The inventor of reggae and dub, and possibly one of the most influential artists of all time will be opening up to Londoners in a never-seen-before way as a specially commissioned cut of the movie will be shown to the audience.

If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, then head down to the Art House in Crouch End to see a screening of Here To Be Heard: The Story of The Slits. The documentary follows the world’s first all-girl pink band who formed in London in 1976. An inspiration, the band inspired generations of artists from the likes of Sonic Youth to Sleater Kinney. Guests will see an insight into the (surviving) pioneering godmothers of punk through archives and interviews. A Q&A will be held after the screening with Tessa Pollitt and the director, William Badgley, for the audience to ask questions.
