A new food store is coming to the King's Road

After 53 years, Chelsea stalwart Partridges closed its doors recently – but this week, a new store is opening in its place: The Chelsea Grocer.
The Chelsea Grocer Opens This Week
Opening in a 9,600 sq ft space opposite the Saatchi Gallery, The Chelsea Grocer will be the new go-to for South West London’s foodies. The shop will sell produce from both local and international suppliers, with its own delicatessen and a coffee bar. Its range will include everything from artisan bread to cheese to beer, alongside cakes and fresh flowers – with regular food and drink tastings to help shoppers discover exciting new brands.
The store will be helmed by Raj Bathia, founder of The Chelsea General Store on Pavilion Road and the Battersea General Store. ‘I am incredibly excited to bring The Chelsea Grocer to life in such an iconic location, at the heart of a community I know so well,’ he said. ‘Our vision is to offer a warm, welcoming space filled with exceptional products and impeccable service from our team who really listen to customers and tailor our offer based on their feedback, from rare specialist products to everyday staples at competitive prices.’
Hugh Seaborn, CEO of Cadogan, said: ‘The Chelsea Grocer reflects Cadogan’s ongoing commitment to curating and championing independent, high-quality retail experiences for the local community.
‘We were sad to see Partridges leave earlier this year and determined to keep this important local provision – Raj’s thoughtful approach and passion for excellent produce will ensure that it continues to thrive as one of London’s best independent grocers. We are pleased to support this exciting opening and look forward to The Chelsea Grocer becoming a new local favourite.’

Partridges
Founded back in 1972, Partridges was one of Chelsea’s best-loved local spots for many decades. It was known for selling top-quality food from British producers, and garnered Royal Warrants from both Queen Elizabeth II and, more recently, King Charles III.
The Chelsea Grocer will launch on 9 May 2025, with live music and tastings to mark the opening.
The Chelsea Grocer is located at 2-5 Duke of York Square, 80 Kings Road, Chelsea SW3 4LY. thechelseagrocer.com
