What to expect from the regenerative farming festival

Groundswell, the regenerative agriculture festival, is back for its ninth year from 2 – 3 July 2025. Taking place at Lannock Farm in Hertfordshire, the event is all about spotlighting farming methods which promote soil health and exploring the future of food production. Although self-described as being ‘for farmers, by farmers,’ Groundswell’s recent growth has made it a must-visit destination for anyone interested – climate-conscious citizens, farm enthusiasts and more.

Groundswell: Everything You Need To Know About The Festival

Why Is Groundswell Important?

Growing from just 500 guests in its first year to a whopping 8,000 in 2024, Groundswell’s growth has been staggering. This reflects the growing traction of the regenerative agriculture movement, which has not only skyrocketed within the farming community, but also attracted the attention of policymakers and the general public. Shows like Clarkson’s Farm have helped propel farming issues into the spotlight, meaning topics like soil health, biodiversity and food provenance are now at the forefront of everyday conversations.

After taking home the Food Innovation Award at the BBC Food & Farming Awards in December 2024, Groundswell is hosting an impressive 250 speakers this year, attracting a plethora of farming types, from land to livestock.

Amongst the speakers is Gabe Brown, a pioneer of the soil health movement, recently named one of the 25 most influential agricultural leaders in the USA. Attracting 2,000 visitors every year, his innovative North Dakota farm is a prime embodiment of Groundswell’s ethos.

  • Trekking across the world to share her expertise is Jules Matthews from New Zealand, who will tell listeners about regenerative methods of beef and sheep farming, optimising health for both the animal and the consumer.
  • Matthew Evans will lead a talk on the controversial superfood that is milk, aiming to celebrate its nutritional value in a world where unconventional alternatives seem to be multiplying exponentially.
  • ‘Ozempic vs Organic’: Taking place in the soil tent, speakers will discuss the rise of weight loss injections amongst a ‘pandemic of central obesity.’ Can we replace this trending drug with prescriptions of regeneratively produced organic food?
  • Join Patrick Macmanaway to hear about the subtle energies of the land and how to align ourselves with nature and animals to ensure higher levels of productivity. If you’re keen to know what being a land whisperer entails, this is the talk for you.
  • Speakers will also discuss The Great British Wool Revival, stitching together the broken chain from farmer to designer.
  • Are beavers the new kids on the block? See Craig Bennet and others discuss the benefit of having beavers on their land, intentional or not, and how they can promote the resilience of the farming business.

Camping & Glamping

Whatever your camping preferences, Groundswell has a spot for you. If you’re keen to embrace the not-so-glamorous realities of camping, guests are welcome to bring their own tent and use the onsite toilets, showers, and water facilities.
