Renée Zellweger, Nathan Lane & Logan Lerman To Guest Star In Only Murders In The Building Season 5

Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are all set to return to our screens in September for the anticipated fifth season of beloved crime podcast dramedy, Only Murders In The Building. Here’s everything we know so far. But first: a recap.

Where Did Season 4 Leave Us?

The Only Murders In The Building season 4 finale may have neatly wrapped up the mystery of Sazz Pataki’s (Jane Lynch) murder – but it also immediately launched into another.

Sazz was murdered by Marshall P. Pope (Jin Ha), the screenwriter of the Only Murders movie, whose real name was Rex Bailey. He was Sazz’s former stunt protégé and stole her screenplay; when she found out and threatened to expose him, he killed her. Meanwhile, having escaped from prison, hidden in Charles’ (Steve Martin) closet and discovered her old flame Sazz had been killed, Jan (Amy Ryan), season 1’s killer, returned to Arconia in a shock twist. She shot and killed Marshall, before being re-arrested.

Then more happy times ensued: Oliver (Martin Short) and Loretta (Meryl Streep) married in a lovely ceremony – a silver lining to the cloud of her moving to New Zealand to film a new show. But as Charles, Oliver and Mabel (Selena Gomez) were celebrating the wedding and having solved Sazz’s murder, a new mystery emerged. Entering the Arconia courtyard, the trio found beloved doorman Lester (Teddy Coluca) dead in the fountain, his blood turning the water red. But who did it?

What Will Happen In Season 5?

The key question at the heart of season 5 is thus: who killed Lester? And why? Charles, Oliver and Mabel know it wasn’t an accident, and their latest investigation plunges them deeper into the shadowy corners of New York than ever before.

The trio will discover a dangerous web of secrets linking powerful billionaires to old-school mobsters and the Arconia’s mysterious residents. There was a hint towards this shadowy world in the season 4 finale, when a new character Sofia Caccimelio (Téa Leoni) asked Charles and Mabel for help finding her missing husband, Nicky ‘The Neck’ Caccimelio. Nicky is known as the dry cleaning king of Brooklyn, with ties to the Caputo crime family. Naturally, Charles and Mabel turned her down: they only solve murders in the Arconia building. But Nicky’s disappearance ‘has everything to do with this building,’ Sofia says. Could Lester’s death be linked?

As season 5 progresses, we’re told Charles, Oliver and Mabel will uncover a deeper divide through the centre of NYC as the city they thought they knew evolves around them.

The Cast

All our favourite Only Murders characters will return for season 5, including Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez. They will be joined by Michael Cyril Creighton and Meryl Streep (though less than usual with her character filming a TV show in New Zealand).  Téa Leoni will return as Sofia Caccimelio.

And as always, a very starry line-up of special guest stars has been revealed for season 5. This includes Renée Zellweger, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Logan Lerman, Christoph Waltz, Richard Kind, Nathan Lane, Bobby Cannavale, Keegan-Michael Key, Beanie Feldstein, Dianne Wiest and Jermaine Fowler.

Only Murders In The Building Season 5 Release Date

The first three episodes of Only Murders In The Building season 5 will drop on 9 September 2025 exclusively on Disney+ (Hulu in the US). New episodes will then arrive weekly.
