The 23-year-old is following in her father's footsteps

If your dad is one of the world’s most famous chefs, you’re likely going to know a thing or two about cooking. But Tilly Ramsay, daughter of Gordon Ramsay, has taken this natural osmosis one step further, paving her own way in the world of food. She’s now fronting a new cooking show for Prime Video called Dish It Out – but how did she get there? Here’s everything you need to know about the budding chef.

Who Is Tilly Ramsay?

Tilly Ramsay – full name Matilda – is the 23-year-old daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and TV presenter and author Tana Ramsay. She is one of six siblings, alongside Megan, twins Holly and Jack, Oscar and Jesse, who were all raised in Wandsworth, South West London.

Cooking has been a passion for Tilly since childhood. Naturally, she learnt a lot from her dad: in an interview with Tasting Table, she recalls being propped up on the counter as a child and watching him make scrambled eggs. But was Gordon as harsh a critic with his own offspring as he is on TV?

‘I wouldn’t say it was tough love,’ she says. ‘I think it was just getting me involved. That was his approach. It was, “You can watch. If you fancy joining, I’ll give you a job. I’ll do this.” Dad wants to always share his knowledge. He always wants to excite other people to the same level that he feels.’

However, Tilly was keen to gain professional training too. Last year, after graduating from the University of Nottingham with a degree in psychology, she went to Ireland to learn the tricks of the trade at the prestigious Ballymaloe Cookery School – the same place Gordon learned his craft many years ago.

‘My family is like an army now,’ says Gordon. ‘But, thankfully, Tilly is the first one who’s interested in cooking. She paid for herself – worked, saved the money, and has gone off to culinary school.’

Also like her dad, Tilly is no stranger to the screen. Growing up, she made appearances on shows like MasterChef Junior, Hell’s Kitchen and Gordon Ramsay’s Home Cooking before eventually hosting her own cooking programme for CBBC, Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch

Then, in 2023, Tilly joined MasterChef Junior series nine as one of the judges, alongside her father, Aarón Sánchez and Daphne Oz. ‘I’ve grown up watching my dad go to work and I was able to sit on the side of a set and watch him as a judge and watch him with the kids,’ Tilly told Parade. ‘I was always admiring him from afar. When he talked about being a judge for the full season, it was like a dream come true. I love cooking, I love a competition show, it was amazing.’

What Is Dish It Out?

Now, Tilly has secured her biggest TV gig yet, landing her very own show for Prime Video: Dish It Out, which premiered this September. The series sees Tilly teaming up with celebrity chefs and social media stars to cook up dishes using surprising ingredients and tools. In episode one, Tilly is joined by Gordon himself, and together the duo create an elevated spin on the classic French croque madame. Tilly also makes New York bagels with TV host Clinton Kelly, pavlova with actor Ellie Taylor, doughnuts with influencer Poppy O’Toole, and chicken veronique with Sam Holland, the brother of Tom Holland.

Along the way, the show also explores the biggest food trends of the moment: Tilly puts her own stamp on viral dishes, from pesto eggs to upside down pastry to the TikTok-famous ‘girl dinner’.

Gordon posted on Instagram to promote Tilly’s programme, writing: ‘She’s all grown up and has her own show… So proud of you @tillyramsay and your new @primevideo show #DishItOut (that’s streaming today !) And thx for squeezing in the old man as a guest kid…he still can show you a few tricks!’
