The TV star is one of many celebs to call the Cotswolds a part-time home

While Claudia Winkleman may seem right at home among the turrets of the Traitors castle, in reality the spray-tanned star leads a much less austere lifestyle. This year will mark her first free from the bedazzled helm of Strictly Come Dancing, but it seems that Winkleman is more booked and busy than ever, with Traitors, Celebrity Traitors and a brand new chat show on BBC One to keep her occupied. But with so many TV stints to juggle, where does Claudia Winkleman go home to unwind? Here’s where the thickly-fringed national treasure actually lives.

Claudia Winkleman’s London Base

Claudia Winkleman is a Londoner born and bred. The child of former Sunday Express editor Eve Pollard and book publisher Barry Winkleman, the Westminster-born star moved to the celeb-strewn suburbs of Hampstead following her parents’ divorce when she was aged just three. While she lived with her mum and step-father, former Daily Express editor Nicholas Lloyd, her similarly famous half-sister Sophie Winkleman was raised by Barry and his new wife, children’s author Cindy Black, in Primrose Hill

Bar her academic stint at the University of Cambridge, Winkleman has remained in London all her life. And it seems the TV star has many happy memories of her childhood in the city. She would, for example, visit the National Gallery with her father Barry where they would spend sometimes as long as 40 minutes staring at just one painting to foster a deeper appreciation of the art.

In 2000, Winkleman met her now husband, the producer Kris Thykier, and the pair were married at Marylebone Town Hall that very same year. The couple were quick to move into a modest-sized apartment in London where they remained for the first six years of their marriage.

Speaking of the flat in a column for The Independent in 2006, Winkleman said: ‘When I say we bought it together, I mean he paid for it and I gave him some coins from the bottom of my bag…We chose the colour of the walls, the carpet and the soap dishes. We skipped round John Lewis discussing the pros and cons of each salt and pepper shaker.’

Looking to upsize and start their family, in 2006 Winkleman and her husband bought up a Grade II listed Bayswater townhouse for around £3.25m, rumoured to be worth closer to £7m today. And now 20 years in, she still lives there with her husband and their three children (Jake, Matilda and Arthur), plus her tortoise Yoshi.

With a home close to Marble Arch, Hyde Park and Connaught Square, Winkleman told The Standard: ‘I can leave my house at 4am and buy a kebab, rent a movie and get some shampoo.’ Despite her celeb status, she also revealed that she makes most of her London commutes by tube, specifically the Central Line, where she one claimed she has ‘never been recognised’.

Though there’s no official photographs of her five-storey London townhouse, shots from her Instagram and at-home interviews provide a sneak peek inside. Where Winkleman is renowned for her tartan-clad, gothic style on the Traitors, her home is comparatively minimalist, largely done-up in a grey and white Scandi look inspired by her husband’s Danish roots.

Despite this, Winkleman admits to being a bit of a hoarder, stating that whilst she might want a neutral white house she also needs a junk area for ‘the stuff that actually isn’t junk’ such as her vast collection of rattan bowls and dark wood furniture which dates back to her student days. Elsewhere, the home boasts floor-to-ceiling shelves to store the family’s high quantity of books, and a complete lack of mirrors, inspired by her mother’s own household ban as she was worried that her children would become overly obsessed with their appearances.

Does Claudia Winkleman Live In The Cotswolds?

When she’s not living in London, like any good celebrity Winkleman needs a Cotswold bolthole to call her own. In 2022, the TV star reportedly fell for a long-term countryside rental in the form of a £3m historic Cotswolds manor house which she’s still believed to be renting today. The latest in a long list of celebrities to call the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty home, other A-listers to be drawn in by its bucolic charms include the Beckhams, Ellen Degeneres and Liam Gallagher. The perfect escape for her and her family outside of the busy TV schedule, she and her husband are known to occasionally join shooting parties at director Guy Ritchie’s Ashcombe Estate in Wiltshire.
