Inside Purdey’s Global Sporting Range

Wherever you are in the world, countryside apparel never goes out of fashion – as proven by Purdey’s latest collection. Seasoned with the spirit of exploration, the Global Sporting Range is a new chapter for the storied British label, this time looking beyond home shores to the warmer climes of Kenya.

For the uninitiated, Purdey is one of the world’s most renowned bespoke gunmakers, founded in London in 1814 and a Royal Warrant holder under every British monarch since 1868. Clothing and accessories followed in 1974 and, as part of the Richemont group, the brand has since expanded into performance outerwear, innovative tailoring and luxurious knits that bring the spirit of the field into everyday life. Heritage and craftsmanship remain firmly at its core, threading through every new collection – the Global Sporting Range very much included.

‘The Global Sporting Range reflects a modern interpretation of sporting life,’ explains Giles Deacon, Creative Director at Purdey. ‘It presents the field as a place of watchfulness and movement, grounded in curiosity, heritage and craftsmanship. This is Purdey as a companion to exploration: measured, informed and quietly capable.’

The collection itself is built around the concept of ‘observing’ the field. If we were to set the scene, it would look something like this: hunkered down in the tall grass, quietly blending into the landscape in wait of witnessing something special. In this scenario, the clothing you wear is just as important as how you carry yourself – it helps you merge into your surroundings, while keeping you cool, calm and comfortable.

This translates into a palette of sand, grass and khaki tones – a nod to the natural landscape – and lightweight, breathable layers built for time spent outdoors. And running through the collection is that unmistakable Purdey touch: pieces that feel considered, refined and easy all at once.

Bag and binoculars

Take the Utility Pocket Shirt, a quiet workhorse if ever there was one. Crafted in breathable cotton with a clutch of useful pockets, it’s both unfussy and refined, a layer that does its job without ever drawing attention to itself. Wear it under everything, on its own, or knotted around the waist when the day starts to warm up.

Then there’s the Lightweight Kalahari Jacket, which has every chance of becoming the most-worn piece in your wardrobe. An elegant second (or third) layer, its featherweight build means it works for early-morning chill, evening cool-downs and the unpredictable bits in between, all without the bulk that warmer climates so rarely call for.

Underpinning the whole collection are the polos, available in short and long sleeve, and the unsung heroes of any warm-weather wardrobe. Armed with versatility, they can be pulled on first thing and will still work at golden hour. They also look equally at home in the field, on the terrace, or wherever else the day happens to take you.

As ever, Purdey shows that heritage doesn’t have to feel heavy. (Or, in this case, hot.)
