Once her youngest children turn 18, the star is planning to leave the US for good

You’d think if you were Angelina Jolie, you’d boast one of the buzziest social lives in Hollywood. Not so, according to the star. ‘I don’t really have a social life,’ she told WSJ in 2023. That is, at least, not in Los Angeles, where she’s hounded by paparazzi every time she opens the front door. But all of that should soon change for the actress, as she prepares to sell-on her LA home and leave the US for good.

Inside Angelina Jolie’s Home

Ever since her headline-dominating divorce from Brad Pritt, Jolie’s freedom has been somewhat curtailed. With six children between them, court-ordered parental duties have prevented her from leaving the country for anything more than short bursts of travel until her two youngest turned 18. In 2024, she told the Hollywood Reporter: ‘I am here because I have to be here from a divorce, but as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.’ Now, with her youngest twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline set to come of age on 12 July 2026, Jolie will finally have the freedom to escape the US for good. The first step in her move? Listing her Los Angeles estate on the market.

Located in the celebrity-filled Laughlin Park enclave of Los Feliz, the two-acre property dates back to 1913. In 1916, it was acquired by pioneering filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille for $28,000. He combined the home with the neighboring Dodd residence (the former home of Charlie Chaplin), uniting the two properties with an elegant glass corridor.

The estate was later owned by novelist Richard Grossman and art consultant Lisa Lyons, who sold it to Jolie in 2017 for $24.5 million. Other A-listers who have called the surrounding Laughlin Park home include Natalie Portman, David Fincher, Kristen Stewart, Gwen Stefani, Ellen Pompeo, will.i.am, Lauren Graham, and Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard.

Spanning 11,000 sqft of interior space, Jolie’s home boasts six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms, split between the Italianate Revival main house, the guest house, pool house, fitness studio, garage and something called a tea house – which may simply be a building for drinking tea.

Surrounded by century-old trees, rolling lawns, dense greenery and high walls, the grounds offer up a park-like idyll with spacious terraces, views toward the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Park Observatory, and a swimming pool at the centre.

Where Will Angelina Jolie Move to Next?

Despite living in LA pretty much all her life, the actor, director and humanitarian doesn’t feel at home in the celeb-packed city. ‘I grew up in quite a shallow place,’ she told WSJ. ‘Of all the places in the world, Hollywood is not a healthy place. So you seek authenticity.’

And while she could simply move to another corner of the country, it seems the States’ current political climate has left Jolie looking for a way out. During the 2025 San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain, she said: ‘I love my country, but at this time, I don’t recognize my country. I’ve always lived internationally, my family is international, my friends, my life. My worldview is equal, united and international. Anything anywhere that divides or limits personal expressions and freedoms from anyone, I think, is very dangerous.’

She added: ‘When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety. I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be… That humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here.’

As for the places she does cherish, Jolie seems to have fallen for Cambodia – a country she first visited to film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Since then, she has worked throughout the South East Asian country with the UN and refugee charities. Her eldest son, Maddox, was adopted in Cambodia, while Jolie also owns a 148,000 acre estate there – which she will likely escape to once she’s sold her LA home.
