Inside the home of Harley-Davidson and Puma CEO, Jochen Zeitz
From glassy New York skyscrapers to European hideaways, Succession takes viewers on a tour of some of the world’s most exceptional properties. For where else would you expect one of the wealthiest (fictional) families on the globe to call home? If you too fancy living the luxury lifestyle of the Roy clan, then you’re in luck – Connor Roy’s New Mexico ranch is for sale.

Backstabbing, baller deals, and an emotionally fraught family driving it all, HBO’s Succession was the series that took the world by storm. Created by Jesse Armstrong, the award-winning show follows family patriarch and head of global media conglomerate Waystar RoyCo, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), and the children vying for its ownership. As his health declines, estranged Connor (Alan Ruck), power-hungry Kendall (Jeremy Strong), irreverent Roman (Kieran Culkin), and politically savvy Shiv (Sarah Snook) battle it out for the Waystar crown.
Fans of the comedy-drama will likely recognise this New Mexico estate from its starring role in ‘Austerlitz’ (season 1, episode 7). With the tabloids biting at the family’s heels, Logan ships them off for a highly eruptive family therapy session at Connor’s ranch – the unfortunately named Austerlitz – in New Mexico, in a bid to repair their public image. Though all attempts at family reconciliation inevitably explode in their face, with 178 acres to roam on, this Sante Fe ranch could make the perfect home for someone looking to escape their family’s theatrics.

The real-life owner of this impressive abode? Harley-Davidson and Puma CEO Jochen Zeitz. Zeitz and his wife, film producer Kate Garwood, made Santa Fe their primary home in 2021 as they wanted to create an outdoor space for their two children could enjoy. But as the business mogul makes his move to Kenya, this sizeable ranch is now up for grabs. As well as its starring role in Succession, the property has also been featured in the Netflix series Dark Winds (a 70s-set thriller about three Navajo tribal police officers) and The Ridiculous 6 (an abysmally rated Western action comedy starring Adam Sandler) – plus, it’s played host to a string of luxury weddings and private events.
Christened the much less questionable Rancho Alegre, this sprawling desert retreat was designed by acclaimed Southwestern architect William F. Tull – whose work has helped define the modern abode architecture associated with the American Southwest. The residence showcases many of the elements for which has Tull became celebrated, from handcrafted detailing and traditional adobe forms to expansive spaces designed to frame the New Mexico landscape.

Since reimaged by Olivia Williams Design Studio and architecture firm Fearon Hay, this ranch and its 20,000 sqft of living space is extraordinary in scale. Located just 20-30 minutes from Sante Fe, the property’s windows frame sweeping views of the Ortiz Mountains and the surrounding desert landscape. At its heart sits the Main Hacienda, a six-bedroom residence featuring hand-carved beams and cabinetry, rare bóveda ceilings, flagstone and granite surfaces, copper-clad windows, vigas and stacked Anasazi stone.
Inside, every amenity and room a multi-millionaire might desire – a living room, kitchen, solarium, saloon, dining room with wine cellar and bar, a screening and entertainment room, two offices, broad terraces, a detached private gym, and – of course – and infinity edge pool, where we see Logan Roy swimming at the conclusion of the Succession episode, scars revealed on his back.

Beyond the central residence, there’s all the parts to play out your own Western cowboy fantasies. The surrounding Plaza provides a complete private village, including a torreón (watch tower), an Old West jail, multiple guest suites, a chapel with screening theater, recording studio, general store, outdoor cantina, rose garden and carriage house – designed for entertaining or, in Zeitz’s case, housing his inevitably impressive car collection. A four bedroom Ranch House and expansive equestrian facilities complete this eye-watering offering.
