Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White & Heston Blumenthal To Reunite For BBC Docuseries

A new three-part series from the BBC will chart the rise – and rivalry – of three of the biggest chefs of our time: Gordon Ramsay, Marco Pierre White and Heston Blumenthal. 

The Rise Of The Rockstar Chef: Everything We Know So Far

Commissioned for the BBC and made by Ramsay’s production company, Studio Ramsay Global, The Rise of the Rockstar Chef will explore how the trio shaped Britain’s culinary industry – set against the nineties backdrop of the Cool Britannia era. During this period, Ramsay, White and Blumenthal were all making a name for themselves in the restaurant world, and feuding with one another along the way. 

Ramsay famously worked for White at his restaurant Harveys in Wandsworth, which he described in his recent Netflix documentary as a terrible experience where he ‘cried in the kitchen’ and ‘went to hell and back’ working 18-hour days, six days a week. 

Speaking on the Louis Theroux podcast recently, White attempted to give his version of events. ‘Gordon came to me as a young man. I liked Gordon. He was kind. He worked hard for me,’ he said. When asked if he made Ramsay cry, he responded, ‘He made himself cry. He was chopping onions at the time.’ However, he did admit there were tears on Ramsay’s final night at the restaurant in July 1989. ‘It was highly emotional for him. He did say to me, “I don’t care Marco, just f***ing hit me, whatever”. He was very upset. It was 30-plus years ago.’ This was the start of a decades-long rivalry between the two chefs, but more recently the pair appeared to bury the hatchet.

Blumenthal, too, had various spats with Ramsay and White over the years, though up until now these haven’t been as heavily documented. 

The Rise of the Rockstar Chef will go into these relationships in more detail, featuring candid interviews with the chefs themselves as well as those who witnessed key moments first-hand – from maîtres d’s to commis chefs and food critics.

The series will also look at the chefs’ individual impact on British dining. White was a pioneer of high-intensity celebrity chef culture, becoming the youngest chef at the time to earn three Michelin stars. He paved the way for Ramsay, who played a big part in breaking down the rigid rules of fine dining and modernising British cuisine. Blumenthal, meanwhile, soared to fame for his innovative approach to cooking, introducing scientifically guided inventions like the culinary use of liquid nitrogen and the triple-cooked chip.

When Is The Rise of the Rockstar Chef Out?

A release date has not yet been confirmed, but we do know filming has begun so it’s likely the series will air in late 2026 on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
