It's finally coat season – and Hobbs has everything you need to kick it off in style
The return of cold, drizzly weather can only mean one thing: autumn has arrived. And when the temperatures drop, we’ll be swapping our shorts and T-shirts for a trusty coat. After all, how else are we meant to weather frosty mornings, unexpected downpours and the occasional gust of wind? Short sleeves won’t cut it – we’re in coat season now. This year, we’re taking inspiration from Hobbs, whose latest AW26 drop includes some of the most stylish outwear for the season. Here’s what we’re loving right now, plus how the brand tested out its new collection on the wild Yorkshire Moors.)
Inside Hobbs’ AW26 Coat Collection
While the sun was fun while it lasted (heatwaves notwithstanding), it’s finally time to dig out those jumpers, pull on a pair of jeans and invest in a truly showstopping coat. And, thankfully, when it comes to getting outerwear right, Hobbs sits up there with the best of the British high street. A coat is rarely just an accessory to whatever’s underneath it. For most of the season, it is the outfit: the first thing anyone sees before they see the rest of you. It’s worn harder and relied on longer than anything else in your wardrobe, and for AW26 Hobbs has built its new in coat edit around making sure it earns those credentials.
To prove it, Hobbs swapped the studio for the Yorkshire Moors – using its windswept hills, dramatic skies and and rainy weather to put its new line to the test. It’s Brontë country, and exactly the sort of place that separates a coat that merely looks the part from one built to survive a proper British autumn.
And built for the job they are. Pure wool does the warmth without the bulk, shower-resistant cotton takes care of the trenches, and storm guards at the collar keep the wind from creeping in where it isn’t wanted. Belts adjust to cinch in or wrap over a jumper, and the pockets run deep enough for keys, gloves and anything else you’d rather not lose halfway through a walk.
Hobbs has leaned into the season with its colours and textures, too. Slices of rich plum, heritage checks woven through warm chocolate, splashes of coffee and checkerboard faux fur give the collection its soft-to-the-touch tactile edge. (It’s the cosiest time of the year, after all.) Think of it as tailoring designed for style and comfort, that looks just as good on the streets of London as it does down on the Yorkshire Moors.
