A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder Season 2: Plot, Cast, Release Date

The BBC and Netflix revealed they were working on a second series of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder way back in November 2024, less than three months after the first series launched. The news did not come as a surprise: in the UK, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was available to watch for free on the BBC, where it became one of BBC iPlayer’s most watched titles among 16 to 24 year olds. Over in the US it was on Netflix, where it topped the TV charts.

Even back then, however, we knew there would be a little while to wait for series 2. Lead star Emma Myers is most recognisable for her role in another high-profile Netflix series, Wednesday, where she plays teenage werewolf Enid Sinclair. Indeed, in November 2024, the BBC revealed it had plans to film series two in the UK in 2025.

The first season was based on Holly Jackson’s novel of the same name – the first novel in a trilogy, published in 2019 – but it was screenwriter Poppy Cogan who adapted the novel for the small screen. For series two, Jackson is on board and has written the adaptation of the second novel in the trilogy, Good Girl, Bad Blood (2020), along with Cogan.

What Will Happen?

A Good Girl’s Guide To Murder season 2 is based on the second novel in Jackson’s trilogy, Good Girl, Bad Blood. The action picks up where the first book left off: in the aftermath of discovering the identity of Andie Bell’s murderer, Pip releases a true crime podcast with the help of Ravi. Naturally, it goes viral – but Pip insists her detective days are over.

But then another teenager goes missing – on the very same night Little Kilton hosts a memorial for the six year anniversary of the deaths of Andie and boyfriend Sal. But why aren’t the police interested in looking for Jamie Reynolds? If they won’t, Pip certainly will – and thus begins another investigation, uncovering even more secrets lying beneath the surface of Little Kilton. But this time, the whole town is listening…

While fans praised series one for its faithfulness to Jackson’s book, we can expect even more of the same for series two. ‘I didn’t write season one, but I went into the process for season two with a very strong idea about what I myself would look for in an adaptation of book I loved,’ Jackson tells the BBC. ‘So I always kept that idea of the reader in mind as I turned to breaking down the series and the ways it would be absolutely 100 percent faithful to what was on the page, and the ways I could introduce new elements which would only serve to elevate the story, never to deviate.’
