What to expect from the upcoming series

It’s official: our favourite escapist interior design show is coming to a close. Here’s everything you need to know about the final series of Escape to the Chateau, and what we can expect from the Strawbridge family in the future.

Escape to the Chateau is Returning For Its Final Series This Autumn

Since hitting our screens in 2016, Escape to the Chateau has brought a newfound fascination with the extravagant fixer-upper to UK audiences. Dick and Angel Strawbridge bought their chateau, then a rundown building in northwest France, with the dream of transforming it into a family home and spectacular events venue. Over the years, that dream became a reality – and we got to see just how they did it. But now, seven years after the first episode aired, the programme is coming to an end with its ninth and final series.

Angel in the Atelier de Marriage

The new series revisits the Strawbridge family as they open the chateau back up for business after two years of closure following the Coronavirus pandemic. Making up for lost time, the series will see the family hosting a barrage of weddings and events, culminating in a ‘Christmas extravaganza’ for the whole family.

Among all the party planning activities, viewers will also get to see some behind-the-scenes work as Dick and Angel prepare the chateau for the upcoming social season and their evolving family life. From new rooms like the Wedding Workshop (where Angel plans to store everything filed under ‘wedding’) to one of Dick’s many ‘big jobs’ (this time it’s a winter garden on stilts), as well as the addition of a family games room in the attic for Arthur and Dorothy, there’s plenty more fun to be found in the upcoming series.

Dick Strawbridge in the chateau's moat

Speaking on the popularity of the series, Dick and Angel Strawbridge said: ‘Escape to the Chateau has been our family journey; our decision to buy a Chateau with no water, electricity, heating or sewage has taken us on the adventure of a lifetime and we could never have imagined what would unfold. The good, the bad and the ugly… we have cherished every second and love that we have a visual record to show Arthur and Dorothy when they’re older.

‘We’re so grateful to everyone who continues to support us and we’re looking forward to what the future holds. As one Chateau chapter ends, so another Chateau story begins…’

The Strawbridge Family

And another new chapter does indeed await fans of Strawbridge story. Channel 4 confirmed that a new series starring Dick and Angel is in the works, tentatively titled Escape to the Chateau: Secret France, which will see them exploring the country in search of extraordinary hidden gems.

‘Across nine series we have seen the chateau rise from its ruins into the beautiful home and venue it is today,’ said Clemency Green, Senior Commissioning Editor for Channel 4. ‘We look forward to working with Two Rivers and Chateau TV to follow Dick and Angel as they turn their attentions to new projects and new adventures, firstly unlocking the secrets of beautiful France in a brand new travel series.’
