Home Aid

James Acaster

James Acaster by Edward Moore

Taking place this May in Bath, HOME AID is a charity auction raising money for refugees who have been left homeless as a result of the Ukraine crisis. It will be interiors-focused, with an abundance of items and experiences on offer, with all auction profits going to UK for UNHCR’s Ukraine Emergency Appeal. The event itself will feature appearances from names like comedian James Acaster, alongside live music from the Claire Martin Quintet, fronted by multi award-winning singer Claire Martin OBE.

Kricket Fundraiser for Ukraine

The Soho branch of Indian restaurant Kricket is hosting an open event to raise money for Voices of Children, a charity helping children affected by the war. Led by one of Kricket’s chefs, Ukrainian-born Dimi Penziev, the team will serve up Ukrainian dishes with a twist, including a dish called Pampushky: garlic bread with wild garlic chilli butter, and a type of honey cake called Medovik. All proceeds will go towards the charity.

More Yoga’s Late Night Lock In

To tie in with Mental Health Awareness Month this May, More Yoga is bringing back its Late Night Lock Ins. These offer an alternative way to spend Friday and Saturday nights – instead of whiling away the hours in a pub, you’ll be nourishing your body and mind. A special event on 13 May will see 25 per cent of profits donated to the Ukraine Appeal through non-profit organisation Fierce Calm. The evening will consist of a Bhakti yoga flow from More Yoga’s head of wellness, Liz Joy Oakley, a psychology workshop from The Yoga Psychologist and a gong meditation session with Rachael Welford.

The Travel for Ukraine Auction

Mauritius

From fitness retreats in Italy to family trips to Lapland, an array of holidays are being auctioned in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. Prices begin from just £200, and the minimum price for all the lots is around 40 per cent of their real value, which means bidders will be getting a good deal. It’s the brainchild of Kathryn Brierley, founder and managing director of The Healthy Holiday Company and in:spa retreats, who rallied friends in the travel industry to get involved and donate trips. Highlights include a week in Mauritius, a wellness break for two at Ananda Spa in the Himalayas, plus some closer to home stays such as a night at The Grove in Hertforshire and a city escape combining Bath and Cornwall.

Bids are open until 23.59 on Sunday 8 May when the winning bid for each lot will be announced. To access the auction and bid, visit uk.givergy.com

UK For Ukraine: Support Through Art

Works from more than 200 Ukrainian artists are on display in Canary Wharf, with all pieces available for the public to buy. All proceeds will go towards UK For Ukraine, who are providing supplies, food and clothing for refugees feeling Ukraine. Artworks are on sale for between £100 and £14,000 – and if you’re keen to explore the exhibition without buying anything, there are also donation stations dotted around.

Cook for Ukraine

Food at Mortimer House Ukraine fundraising dinner

Chefs Olia Hercules, Alissa Timoshkina and Zuza Zak are among the creators of the #CookForUkraine initiative, which has already raised over £550,000 for Unicef UK’s Ukraine appeal. Restaurants, cafes and bars have been getting involved by adding voluntary donations onto their bills, plus hosting special fundraising events. Coming up, Ukrainian chef Yurii Kovryzhenko is heading up a dinner at Mortimer House which will showcase a selection of classic Ukrainian dishes. You can also get involved by hosting your own bake sale, supper club or fundraiser, then sharing images on social media to spread the word.

Mortimer House event takes place on 4 May, tickets available at sevenrooms.com; find out more information about #CookForUkraine at justgiving.com

Concert for Ukraine

An hour-long concert is taking place at Kings Place in aid of British Ukrainian Aid. The event will see Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral Choir of London taking to the stage alongside a host of Ukrainian musicians, including soprano Natalka Pasicznyk and violinist Luka Stepanyak. Audiences will also have a rare opportunity to hear the music of the Zhayvir Bandura Ensemble, the instrument that best embodies the voice and soul of Ukraine.
