This is the Adolescence star's most chilling role yet
You can’t go wrong with a Stephen Graham drama. The scouse superstar is one of the greatest actors on British shores. From his emotionally raw turn in one-shot conversation-starter Adolescence, to his stress-inducing performance in the similarly one-shot chef drama Boiling Point, it seems there’s no role this man can’t tackle. And now he’s in his most chilling performance yet as serial killer Jurek Walter in Nocturne.
Currently reigning at number one spot on Apple TV’s streaming chart, the psychological crime thriller – as you’d expect of any Stephen Graham drama – has been an overnight success. And while the first two episodes were only just released on 30 October, we’re already gagging to know if there will be more. Here’s everything we know about the possibility of Nocturne season 2.
Liev Schreiber as Jonah Lynn in Nocturne on Apple TV
What Is Nocturne About?
When retired and grieving homicide detective and former solider Jonah Lynn (Liev Schreiber) relocates to a small town in western Pennsylvania, his quiet life is shattered when a long-missing victim of sadistic serial killer Jurek Walter (Stephen Graham) turns up alive.
With his return, the clock is on to find the one remaining missing person. Forced to return to his unsolved case, Jonah’s protégée and daughter of his late police partner, FBI agent Saga Bauer (Zazie Beetz), goes undercover inside the psychiatric facility to extract information.
Jarek isn’t one to underestimate. Known for drawing out his victims’ deaths in order to torture them and their families, he now passes his time doing push-ups, stashing contraband, and driving fellow inmates to suicide by whispering to them through the pipes. Piercing his hooks into new and inexperienced nurse, Karl (Rory Culkin), Jarek has a way of making you feel sorry for him despite his crimes.

Will There Be A Nocturne Season 2?
A show’s chances of renewal are typically determined by their success during their run window. And considering Nocturne is currently the number one show on Apple TV, it seems crazy to think that the streamer wouldn’t renew it for a season 2. The only thing standing in the way of a potential second season is if the show’s creators envisioned this as a standalone adaptation.
Whilst the series was written by Rowan Joffé and John Hlavin, the Scandi Noir script was based on the Joona Linna series by Lars Kepler (the Swedish husband-wife writing duo behind the pen name, Alexander Ahndoril and Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril, are on board as executive producers).
This first series is specifically based on the novels Lazarus and The Sandman, which are the fourth and seventh books in the series. Though these are the only two novels in which Jurek Walter makes an appearance, with nine other crime thrillers to work from it seems like there’s plenty of material for future instalments if the creators should so wish.
