The Traitors US: Everything You Need To Know

Can’t get enough of The Traitors? You’re in luck…

The BBC’s The Traitors was the talk of the nation over the festive season, racking up a whopping 28 million streams on BBC iPlayer, with Claudia Winkleman somehow boosting her national treasure status even further. The show, a British version of an originally Dutch TV series, saw 22 ordinary Brits secluded in a Scottish castle who, in the style of popular lockdown game Among Us, are slowly ‘killed off’ by fellow ‘traitor’ contestants. If you couldn’t get enough of the series, you’re in luck: the BBC has acquired the UK rights to the US version of The Traitors. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Traitors US: Everything You Need To Know

Presented by Alan Cumming, the US version of The Traitors kicked off across the Atlantic on 12 January, with all 10 episodes landing on streaming platform Peacock at once. Here in the UK, episodes are available to watch now, arriving quickly after the US premiere on 13 January.

‘We’re delighted to give BBC viewers the chance to watch the brand new US series within hours of its release in America,’ said Dan McGolpin, Director, iPlayer and Channels. ‘Hosted by the brilliant Alan Cumming and filmed at the same location as the UK series, it’s a new year treat for those seeking out more treachery – all is about to be revealed on BBC iPlayer, BBC Three and BBC One.’

When & Where To Watch

The US version of The Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer now as a full boxset of 10 episodes. However, BBC will also be airing episodes. From 25 January, BBC One will air double-bills of The Traitors at 10:40 pm every Wednesday for five weeks.

What Is The Traitors About?

The Traitors is a murder mystery game of deception and suspicion, in which contestants – all ‘faithful’ (or pretending to be faithful) to the cause – work together on physical and cryptic missions to rack up a prize fund of up to $250,000.

Hidden among the Faithful contestants are the Traitors who meet each night to ‘murder’ a faithful contestant (at which point the contestant leaves the house), hoping to eliminate all of the Faithfuls one by one while hiding among them. Every evening, the contestants also meet to scrutinise their fellow contestants, decide who is a Traitor, and vote them out. If the Faithfuls manage to banish all of the Traitors, the final contestants split the prize fund. However, if any Traitors are remaining at the end, they keep all of the money for themselves.

Where Is The Traitors US Filmed?

The American version of The Traitors is filmed at Ardross Castle in the Scottish highlands, the same destination as the British version. Learn all about the iconic destination here.

Who Stars in The Traitors US?

Presented by actor Alan Cumming, the American version of The Traitors is different to the UK version in that it stars a series of celebrities alongside ordinary people, split 50:50. The celebrity contestants are:

  • Cody Calafiore (Big Brother)
  • Kate Chastain (Below Deck)
  • Kyle Cooke (Summer House)
  • Reza Farahan (Shahs of Sunset)
  • Cirie Fields (Survivor)
  • Brandi Glanville (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills)
  • Stephenie LaGrossa Kendrick (Survivor)
  • Ryan Lochte (Olympic Gold Medalist)
  • Arie Luyendyk Jr. (Bachelor/Bachelorette)
  • Rachel Reilly (Big Brother)

The British rendition of The Traitors gained favour for the ordinary cast in lieu of celebrities or influencers. But the American version features a mixture of celebrities and ordinary people, in the vein of some seasons of popular reality show, Survivor, notably ‘Fans v Favourites’. So, will The Traitors US gain as much popularity as the British version on the BBC, or will the presence of celebrities undo the magic we fell in love with? Only time will tell…
