When Will We See Wednesday Season 3?

After a long wait for season 2, the third installment of Netflix’s second most successful series ever might land sooner than expected
Tim Burton’s gothic mystery Wednesday took the world by storm when it first launched in November 2022, quickly becoming one of the streaming platform’s most-watched original series of all time (second only to Squid Game). Centring on sharp and sardonic school girl Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega), the series whisks us off to the supremely eerie Nevermore Academy where she hopes to hone her emerging psychic skills. Meanwhile Wednesday finds herself dead in the middle of twisted mysteries with grave consequences, all while she navigates new school friends – and foes.
Set in Vermont, Wednesday season 1 was filmed in the more aptly gothic Romania in the winter of 2021 to 2022, with more than 70 sets and six soundstages utilised and filming locations across Bucharest. Flash forward to 2025, and the second season is officially streaming in full after a three year delay. Renewed for season 3 in July, is another three year wait on the cards for our next Wednesday dose? It seems not… Here’s what we know so far.

Wednesday Season 3: Plot, Cast, Release Date & More
It’s official: as of 23 July 2025, Wednesday season 3 has the greenlight. The news was revealed by Netflix just days before the first half of season 2 of the hit gothic drama launched on the platform at the start of August, with co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough commenting: ‘I have been doing this long enough to know that shows like this don’t come along every day. It’s such an alchemy of writing, directing, acting, crew, streamer, studio, and fans.’

Based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams in his New Yorker comic strip The Addams Family (which ran from 1938 until his death in 1988), Wednesday stars rising scream queen Jenna Ortega in the title role, joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones as her mother Morticia, Luis Guzman as her father Gomez, and Isaac Ordonez as her younger brother Pugsley.
Elsewhere at Nevermore Academy, Emma Myers plays Wednesday’s colourful werewolf roommate Enid Sinclair, plus Christina Ricci as Marilyn Thornhill, having previously portrayed Wednesday Addams herself in The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993).

What Will Happen?
No news just yet on the plot of Wednesday season 3, but part two gave us some more clues. One thing we know for sure is that Ortega will return in the leading titular role, and she will most likely return to Nevermore Academy for more twisted hijinks.
At the end of season 2, we saw the spectre of the mysterious Ophelia (Morticia’s long-lost sister) scrawling ‘Wednesday must die’ on a wall – surely a portent for the events of season 3. Throughout season 2, it was teased (via Morticia) that Ophelia went missing after losing control of her powers as a Raven – a disturbing parallel with Wednesday who lost her psychic abilities, too. However at the end of season 2, when Morticia hands Wednesday Ophelia’s journal, those powers come flooding back. The gothic teen sees a dreadful vision: Ophelia locked away in a dungeon-like room in Grandmama Hester Frump’s (Joanna Lumley) mansion.
It’s clear that Hester is hiding more than we bargained for, while Isadora’s (Billie Piper) motives also seem more twisted than ever. Luckily for us, both characters will return for the third instalment after making their debuts in season 2.

Wednesday season 2 expanded the Addams Family lore and introduced a whole host of intriguing new characters. The series’ co-creator and co-showrunner Miles Millar teases: ‘We will be seeing more Addams Family members and learning more family secrets in season 3!’
And off the back of season 2 delving into darker and more complex stories, we can only assume season 3 will follow the same pattern. Bad things come in threes, after all.
‘Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,’ says Gough. ‘We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday,’ adding: ‘Wednesday season 1 was a table setter, but there’s still so much of the world left to see. It’s been exciting to expand the scope and the vision of the show this season.’
One thing we know for sure? After a glimpse of her at the end of season 2, Ophelia is set to appear properly in season 3. ‘The reemergence of Ophelia is going to hit this family like a bomb,’ Gough teases. ‘It was always the plan to give viewers a glimpse of her at the end of the season in a way that they weren’t expecting, and then that’s a driver into Season 3.’

Who Will Star?
A fresh face will join the cast of Wednesday season 3: French star Eva Green as the long-missing Ophelia Frump (aka Aunt Ophelia). She joins the season as the missing sister of Morticia Addams, whose ghostly absence loomed over season 2. Green – who has previously worked with director Tim Burton on Dark Shadows (2012), Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children (2016) and Dumbo (2016) – says she is ‘thrilled to join the woefully twisted world of Wednesday’.
‘This show is such a deliciously dark and witty world,’ the actor adds. ‘I can’t wait to bring my own touch of cuckoo-ness to the Addams family.’
She will be joined by lead star Jenna Ortega, as well as Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan and newcomers Joanna Lumley and Billie Piper. The full cast we know so far is as follows:
- Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams
- Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair
- Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin
- Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay
- Moosa Mostafa as Eugene Ottinger
- Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus
- Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams

- Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo as Sheriff Ritchie Santiago
- Victor Dorobantu as Thing
- Evie Templeton as Agnes DeMille

Release Date
No specific release date just yet, but filming for Wednesday season 3 is scheduled to begin in February 2026, five months after season 2 part 3 landed on Netflix. This is much speedier than the commencement of season 2 filming, which did not begin until a year and a half after season 1 launched.
This is a four month delay from the original schedule, in which filming was planned to commence in November 2025, just two months after season 2 part 2 launched.
If all goes to plan, Wednesday season 3 could launch in early 2027; naturally our fingers are crossed for even sooner.
All episodes of Wednesday are available to stream on Netflix.
