Pesto, Vinegar & Olives: London’s Quirkiest Ice Cream Pop-Up Returns

What's on the menu this summer?
The sun is shining across the capital, which calls for ice cream. But instead of your usual chocolate or vanilla, how about a refreshing scoop infused with pesto? Or Heinz baked beans? Or soy sauce? Well, that’s what’s on the menu at the Anya Hindmarch Ice Cream Project, the cult ice cream pop-up which has returned to London for its third year running.
The Anya Hindmarch Ice Cream Project Is Back
Just arrived within the Anya Hindmarch Village in Chelsea, the shop is renowned for serving unusual flavors of ice cream and sorbet – with a focus on household cupboard items, such as condiments and sauces. This year’s line-up is as quirky as ever, with newbies including Filippo Berio Basil Pesto, which has the nutty, fragrant flavour of classic pesto; Perello Olive, a deep and creamy ice cream with a hint of spice; and Branston Piccalilli, finished with a hint of mustard.
Other savoury flavours include:
- Sarson’s Vinegar
- Bird’s Custard
- Heinz Baked Beans
- Maldon Sea Salt
- Kikkoman Soy Sauce
If you’re after something more conventional, fear not. The pop-up also serves sweeter crowd-pleasers such as the McVitie’s Penguin, McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes, Sun-Pat Peanut Butter and Kenco Coffee. There are a couple of sorbets on offer too: one infused with Tropicana orange juice, and another with Robinson’s lemon barley water.
Feeling brave? Give the new blind tasting tea a go – this involves trying 15 flavours of the various scoops, guessing what they are with your own tasting scorecard. This way, you can skip the notoriously long queue too.
All ice cream is made in small batches in Devon, with flavours available by the scoop or in 500ml tubs to take away.
