The hotel's new bakery will champion British baking classics

A cheering antidote to the inevitable post-Christmas gloominess: Claridge’s has announced its hotly anticipated bakery will launch on 21 January 2026. Set to open its doors on Brooks Mews in Mayfair behind the hotel, the new spot will be a celebration of British baking, with one of the world’s most acclaimed bakers, Richard Hart, at the helm.

What To Expect From The New Claridge’s Bakery

So what’s on the menu? Prepare to channel your inner child (with a luxe Claridge’s edge, of course). Visitors can take their pick from an array of old-school baked treats, like Jammy Dodger Tarts, Belgian Buns, Iced Fingers, Bakewell Tarts and French Fancies. The savoury side will be equally nostalgic: think Marmite cheese straws, Hampshire pork scotch eggs and ‘the ultimate Claridge’s sausage roll’. A range of sourdough bread (Hart’s specialty) will also be on offer, alongside granary loaves and bloomers, plus takeaway lunches including sandwiches and quiches.

The bakery marks a return to the UK for Hart, who grew up in London (and worked under Gordon Ramsay) before heading Stateside, where he made a name for himself as head baker at San Francisco’s Tartine. He was there for seven years before going on to launch Copenhagen bakery Hart alongside Noma’s René Redzepi, which quickly garnered a cult following for its cardamom buns and expertly crafted loaves. Next came Green Rhino in Mexico City’s Roma Norte region, which serves a rotating selection of pastries, cookies, buns and bread – with queues regularly snaking down the street.

In 2024, Hart brought his years of learnings about all things bread to a cookbook, Richard Hart: Intuitive Sourdough Baking. He is renowned world-over for his baking wizardry – so much so that he even got namechecked on The Bear – and no doubt his latest London launch will drawn in big acclaim.

‘Opening Claridge’s Bakery feels like the moment when all the work, the recipes, and the ideas finally meet the people they’re meant for,’ says Hart. ‘Claridge’s has always stood for a certain kind of hospitality and bringing that spirit into the Bakery has been a joy. It’s been a privilege to develop the vision and the menu, and I’m excited for Londoners and travellers alike to discover and taste what we’ve created for them’.

Thomas Kochs, managing director at Claridge’s, adds: ‘We look forward to a new chapter on Brook’s Mews and to be working with Richard Hart, with his highly acclaimed, prestigious reputation in the world of food. It is a significant moment for Claridge’s, and we are very happy to be offering a whole new bakery concept to hotel guests and visitors alike’.

Claridge’s is up there with some of London’s finest hotels, having stood proudly in Mayfair for over 200 years – beloved for its Art Deco charm and quintessentially British feel, as well as its excellent food and drink offering. The new bakery will join a number of dining spaces, including the historic Foyer & Reading Room, the recently revamped Claridge’s Restaurant and Claridge’s Artspace Cafe (the hotel’s first ever cafe, opened in 2023), a sleek space serving crêpes, salads and patisserie. There’s also the pretty pink Painter’s Room bar, as well as an exclusive, subterranean chef’s table experience, L’Epicerie.

Right now, the hotel is also housing a pop-up from one of New York’s most esteemed bars, Dante. It’s looking especially magical this December, with Burberry’s chief creative officer Daniel Lee brought in to create the look for this year’s Christmas tree – a 15-year-strong tradition which has seen a string of designers and artists decorate the festive centrepiece.
