From glitzy LA sushi spots to Italian eateries in London

In her recent Netflix documentary, Meghan Markle showed us some of the dishes she loves to cook at home, from focaccia to skillet spaghetti. But where does she like to dine out? We’ve done some digging to find out the royal’s favourite restaurants, both in her hometown of California and when she’s visiting London.

A Guide To Meghan Markle’s Favourite Restaurants: London & California

London

Bocca di Lupo

Before meeting Prince Harry, Meghan was often spotted enjoying a bite to eat at Soho institution Bocca di Lupo. The Italian restaurant is no stranger to A-listers: everyone from James McAvoy to Jessica Biel and Ralph Fiennes have enjoyed a meal there over the years. The hyper-seasonal menu includes an array of fresh pastas, risotto, grill dishes and salads, plus wines from all over Italy – from Tuscany to Piedmont.

Dean Street Townhouse

Soho House restaurant Dean Street Townhouse was famously the venue where Meghan and Harry had their very first date after being introduced by a mutual friend in 2016. The couple spoke about it in their Netflix show, revealing Harry turned up late after getting stuck in traffic. Once he arrived, he apparently had a beer while Meghan sipped a martini. If they did eat, they might have enjoyed dishes like the Townhouse cheeseburger, or the famous Soho House butter lettuce and avocado salad.

André Balazs’ Marylebone eatery and hotel has long been one of London’s top celebrity haunts, beloved by names like Kate Moss and Rita Ora. Meghan was also a regular visitor during her early trips to London – and some reports even suggest it was the venue for hers and Harry’s wedding afterparty. However, you won’t be able to follow in their footsteps right now, and the restaurant is currently undergoing big refurbishments following a devastating fire in February this year.

California

Lucky’s Steakhouse, Montecito

Since moving to California in 2020, Meghan and Harry have been regular guests at upmarket steakhouse Lucky’s in Montecito. They were spotted enjoying a double date with friends Katharine McPhee and David Foster there, and in 2024 the royal couple chose Lucky’s as the venue for their sixth wedding anniversary celebrations.

La Scala, Los Angeles

Meghan was born in LA, and still spends a lot of time there – although her home is now down the road in Montecito, Santa Barbara. One of her favourite restaurants there is Beverley Hills institution La Scala, where she’s known to order the famous chopped salad with turkey (allegedly the dish of choice for Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor, too). The A-list hotspot has been around since the 1950s, and serves Italian fare from pasta to grilled fish and crab cakes.

Bettina, Montecito

Neighbourhood restaurant Bettina is another favourite haunt for Meghan and Harry, located within the Montecito Country Mart. Run by husband-and-wife duo Brendan Smith and Rachel Greenspan, the Italian eatery is renowned for its Neapolitan-style pizzas and fresh pasta dishes, like the signature mafaldine cacio e pepe. Apparently, it’s Meghan and Harry’s go-to takeaway spot.

Asanebo Japanese Gourmet, Los Angeles

LA is overflowing with sushi restaurants, but the Michelin-starred Asanebo Japanese Gourmet is one of the best, regularly attracting celebrities from Lady Gaga to Beyoncé. And last year, Meghan was seen having dinner there, joined by friend Terry Wood, Oprah’s executive producer. The Studio City spot has been around since the early 1990s, quickly garnering a reputation as one of LA’s top eateries, and scooping up two Michelin stars over the years.

Fresh Corn Grill, Los Angeles

Back in 2021, Meghan spoke about her love for West Hollywood’s popular on-the-go joint Fresh Corn Grill. ‘If you ever find yourself in LA, go to Fresh Corn Grill and order salmon tacos,’ she said. ‘It sounds a little strange at first, but trust me, they are insanely good! I dream about those tacos, and they are not paying me to say that.’ Alongside the tacos, the menu includes salads, pizzas, sandwiches and pastas.
