Bavarian parties across the capital

Don your lederhosen and your dirndls: Oktoberfest is back. And while the festival’s biggest celebrations take place in Munich, London is going big too this year, marking the Bavarian event with parties, menus and live music – think big steins of beer, bratwurst aplenty and oompah oompah bands. Read on to find out where to celebrate Oktoberfest in London in autumn 2024.

Oktoberfest Menus & Parties For 2024

The Delaunay Counter

The Delaunay Counter

Covent Garden’s Alpine-inspired cafe The Delaunay Counter – which sits beside the main restaurant – is hosting a fortnight of Oktoberfest celebrations. A special menu includes hot dogs alongside traditional Bavarian fare, such as beef frankfurters with sauerkraut and potato salad, and mushroom stroganoff with semmel noodles and gherkins. There will also be a live band and a Stiegl Bier Cart, which will be serving up takeaway pints, and on 27 September guests can get involved with a ticketed beer tasting event, complete with sharing platters and pretzels.

BOXPARK

Both of BOXPARK’s London venues (Croydon and Wembley) are throwing Bavarian parties this October, running across two separate Saturdays. Running in collaboration with beer brand Staropramen, the sprawling venues will be bringing in oompah oompah bands, games and even EastEnders’ Shaun Williamson, who will be hosting his beloved Barrieoke. Naturally, there will be plenty of beer and bratwurst too.

German Gymnasium

German Gymnasium

The clue’s in the name: King’s Cross restaurant German Gymnasium is all about Bavarian cooking. This October, the dining room is bringing back its Oktoberfest celebrations, complete with authentic German beers from James Clay and Sons. Head chef Alex has created an Oktoberfest Spezialitäten menu, featuring dishes like Schweinebraten, a roast pork collar with red cabbage and dark beer sauce; and Halbes Hendl, roast chicken with warm potato salad. A live oompah band will play classic Bavarian tunes every Friday – and be sure to don your finest traditional attire, as you’ll be rewarded with a free stein of beer.

Oktoberfest on the Common

The UK’s biggest Oktoberfest celebrations are taking place in Clapham Common, which is set to welcome over 17,000 visitors across seven sessions this October. Taking place outdoors, the event will offer over 100 different sausage  varieties, with an estimated one million pints of beer predicted to be sold, alongside live brass bands, fairground rides and games, from keg-tapping to photo booths.

London Bridge’s Flat Iron Square always pulls out the stops for big events, and you can guarantee a lively atmosphere any day of the week. This October, the buzzing food court is being given an Oktoberfest makeover, with a live Oompah Oompah band, Bavarian beers, games and dancing. Visitors can also enjoy food from street food traders, with specials including bratwurst hot dogs, and pork tacos with Mexican sauerkraut.

The Five Points Brewery

Hackney-based brewery The Five Points is bringing Munich to East London with a BBQ event in its courtyard, hosted by chefs Martin Anderson and Curtis Bell of From the Ashes. There will be a focus on whole animal butchery, with dishes cooked on an outdoor Argentinian Asador grill such as smoked sausages, pork knuckle and barbecued bratwurst. Guests can enjoy alongside freshly brewed beers, including an Oktoberfest special: Bavarian smoked lager made using British hops.

Big Penny Social

It’s already known as the UK’s largest beer hall, so of course Big Penny Social in Walthamstow is getting involved with Oktoberfest. The giant venue is hosting three ticketed sessions, complete with live entertainment from oompah band German Jukebox, alongside DJ sessions and big steins of beer. Guests are encouraged to dress in traditional Bavarian clothing, and stay fuelled with bratwurst and pretzels.
